Money, money.... junk?
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:15:49 pm »

I stumbled across a veritable field of amulets, rings, crowns, and other such things (all of which I'm now wearing :D), and I wanted to sell them.  The problem is that I can't find anything in a shop that I'd actually like to buy.  Is there any way to set it so that shopkeepers have actual money to work with, or is that a feature that's still in development?

Also, is there any dependable way to store items without carrying them all around with me?  I'm losing speed because of all this junk, but I'm bound to spot something I *really* want as soon as I dump it all and can't get it back.

The money you buy from one town isnt good in another. Just go to another town.

Well, booger.  Geh, well, any way to increase the odds of a shop containing something better than basic iron armor or weapons?

Bigger towns tend to be richer, and have better equipment.  If you want to do a bit of modding, you can give the human civilization [METAL_PREF], which will give them access to steel.  But I think you'd need to generate a new world.

And just one more question, then - can I store all of my stuff somewhere in a town and have it still be there later, and not marked as someone else's property?

That's not quite true. The money you get is good from different towns in the same civ. It's not good in towns from other civs.

I can never seem to figure out how to get them to actually trade money to me. At best I get to the "owes you xxxxx" point.  ???

Once you get to that point, maybe you can just take money from their chest directly without stealing?

If you ask for money, it gets deposited on the table next to the chest automatically.  Assuming you complete the trade, of course.

Of course, due to how heavy coins are, they're really only useful as a weapon.

Money's been useful to me throughout the entire civ, and it's lighter than the garbage I sold to the shopkeeper.  Besides...

Bah, use the coins to buy extra arrows and throw those. MUCH more deadly.

I pretty much just use coinage by selling objects at the appropriate stores (food at food shops, clothing at clothing shops, crafts at craft shops, etc.) to buy a backpack and an exceptional iron great axe for my minotaur. Then i settle to get free clothes.

Only problem with that is that I'm aiming to reduce the weight I'm carrying.  30 coins = 20L.  30 arrows = ~700L

Besides, coins give you that comedic value when they slaughter someone.  :P

When in need of high damage, I generally use my bow.

Also, as it still hasn't been answered - is there a way to store stuff somewhere in a town or something and have it stay there, or will it vanish/scatter/get stolen after a while?

Retire your adventurer, hire him with a different one, murder him and take all of his stuff. Rinse, lather repeat.

I think you can also fill and drop your backpack.
