Dry well bug ?
« on: September 11, 2008, 03:54:15 am »

Sorry if it has already been posted. I made a quick search and did not find any similar topic, hence this one.

If you build a well on top of a cistern several z-levels deep, when on the uppermost z-level the water level goes almost dry, the well does not function anymore, as if it checked only the uppermost z-level and not the others underneath.

Code: [Select]
__o__
## ##
##2##
##7##
##7##

Removing and rebuilding the well makes it work again though, so it is a minor annoyance.

Forums don't use HTLM. They use PHPBB. In most cases.

Please fix your sig.

As for the well, what's the problem? fill it up a little more. It's not exactly wise to lower a bucket underwater too much.

His sig is left over from the forum port.  Or didn't you notice that old stuff had HTML formatting?

No but I did notice I misspelled HTML.

I wasn't here when the old forum was here.

Besides, too lazy to fix it? Meh. I guess his problem is more important.

FILL THE DAMN CISTERN!

You also meant BBCode, not PHPBB. PHPBB is a specific forum software and I don't know if this forum uses it (I think it doesn't).

And yeah, obviously a well should work if the water is deep enough, period. It makes no rational sense whatsoever for the game's z-level abstraction to affect things in this way, although working around it is probably easy enough.

Buckets hate anything less than 4 deep. They just refuse to get lowered in it. IT'S DISGUSTING!

But the well is more than 4 deep. In the diagram, it's 16 deep. It's just that 16 mod 7 is 2, which is < 4.

Yeah, it's just how the game checks the depth. It probably SHOULD check to see if the tile below the water tile is also water, and approve the upper tile for use if it is.

Oh, yes. There is a bug in this forum, it does not support HTML code.

I guess removing and rebuilding the forum should fix it, so it is a minor annoyance.

I am glad Derakon and G-Flex weren't to lazy to try to understand what I was trying to say.

Heck, that is the first time I ever got trolled upon on this board. Bisous les canards.  :-*
