Split Cooked Food?
« on: September 08, 2008, 06:51:29 pm »

Cooking food has its whole plethora of problems related to the farming/cooking issues, but from a logistical viewpoint there is a problem when you cook roasts of greater than 10 items in that you cannot fit it in barrels.

How difficult would it be to implement something in a future update to split cooked food stacks into groups of 10 if they go over 10?  Would make preserving food a lot easier.

In my other thread I noted something which would solve this problem and others: Have cooking simply take one of each ingredient and no more, or at least close to it.

Fact is that one reason cooking is so valuable/easy is because, unlike other industries, you can make tens of items as a single time. Having smaller stacks in this manner would also help the stacking issue, since they could fit in barrels as easily as plant/meat stacks. It's kind of silly to have prepared meals sitting on the floor anyway.

And to have prepared meals in contrast to all other foodstuff being almost completely immune to normal rotting processes.
Obviously preparing foodstuff for dwarves means to turn everything into some kind of dwarven pemmican ;D

Yeah, but you have to make compromises. Right now, it's not as if dwarves eat at the same time, and cooks don't have any sort of precognitive abilities telling them when dwarves are about to eat, and even if they did, synchronizing everything would be a bitch.

Allowing prepared meals to rot (albeit more slowly than other food) even while in a stockpile would be good enough, really.
