Yay Siege! Just come here damn it.
« on: September 07, 2008, 02:21:34 pm »

Hi, I just got my first siege (By Humans, surprisingly), but their not actually attacking. Instead, they're hanging out in the northeastern corner of my map making fires.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

Siegers make fires now? =O

Content I've not yet heard of aside, if they don't have a path to one of your dwarves, they won't hunt him down and kill him. Try opening your gates or gate-analogue.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I just read the wiki, and apparently Humans sit around making campfires until they make a final headlong charge in my hallway of doom.

Hm. That explains it...

The [SIEGER] tag means that instead of all rushing at you as soon as they spawn on the edge of the map, like goblins, they'll settle in for an actual siege, including setting up a campfire. Once they're all gathered up and prepared, they'll all attack at the same time from the same direction.

That's...somewhat terrifying.

I'm assuming he's fixed the bug where they'd burn themselves alive with their own campfires, correct?

Pity if he did.  I never got to experience that one firsthand.  Sounds mightily awesome.

But they also caused the game to crash sometimes, not very awesome.

That's funny, my game keeps crashing when the humans charge at me...

Anyway around this?

Solution: Place booze stockpiles around the edge of the map, then forbid.

Humans build fires, then explode.

AFAIK booze doesn't actually explode.

Bring the fight to them -- it'll be fun.

When there's 20 of them armed in the iron equipment, and then there my dwarves armed in shells, with just their barehands...

No. I need them to go down my trap hallway, in order for my military dwarves to have a chance.

AND

How do you get around the application crapping out in the middle of sieges? I can't do anything because I keep crashing.

I thought they were making marshmallows and telling stories.
