(40d) wounded kats?
« on: September 07, 2008, 03:18:04 am »

well my cats still aren't picking up remains but now they instead give me a msg about being too injured to store the item in stockpile
this seems to be happening to all my cats and i can't see any injuries on any of them atm (i do have a dog thats missing an eye but i doubt that is the problem)

Yep, I get it, too.

The game was started under 40c and copied to 40d.

The message is:

"Urist McPurringpest, Cat (Tame) cancels Dump Item: Too injured."

None of the affected cats are visibly injured.

Sounds like a problem with the transfer from c to d then.
In my game that was started in 40d they perform the task without complaining

in my case, i believe this is a case of 'cave spider bite' syndrome. ive had a lot of cats bitten, some before they 'adopt' an owner. some of my cheap housing is within vermin spawn range of the chasm (thin wall there), so ive got webs across some beds.

My fortress (genned in 40c) has this bug, and there are no cave spiders, so I don't think that's the problem.

I have to correct myself, it also happens with fortresses generated in 40d.

As soon as I made a refuse stockpile I got the same message from my cats.

Addendum:
It is always kittens who cancel their tasks because of injuries. Full grown cats donīt seem to be affected (at least I havenīt gotten any announcement that speaks of a cat yet)

Heh, now I can just picture cats hauling various refuse to stockpiles.

Lizard remains...severed arm...dragon corpse...

I'm getting this message for an uninjured full-grown cat.  Were litter boxes implemented in this release?  Actually, never mind, I don't want to know.  (Ditto about generating the fortress in 40c and transfered to 40d)

Added addendum:

Now I have also grown up cats that complain about being unable to transport the item to stockpile because of their injuries (whereas before it were just kittens who said that)

I was getting this a lot -- all of the cats are named cats, it never says "stray cat cancels..."  I also noticed that in one case it announced a cat cancelling a job, and then a line or two later announced the cat's owner cancelling a job.

I have it set to "announce some job cancellations" -- maybe job cancellations that should otherwise be invisible are showing up as from their cats?  I tried changing the policy to test it, and it has stopped giving me those messages.  I'm a little sad.

I'm seeing the same thing just after converting to 40d from 39f.  When I get the message I'll pause and find the cat (pity there's no zoom option) and the cat will have a vermin in its mouth.  After unpausing the cat walks around for a bit with the vermin then drops it.

Maybe this was one of the typos Toady mentioned...
Maybe he renamed one of their limbs, and now they think they've had the old limb amputated.
I don't have the raws with me to check though.

Disregard that, the typos were fixed after this release.
No idea what could be causing it.

My 0.02: cat kills a vermin. If it's stray - all's OK. If it's tame, it brings the vermin to it's owner. When it reaches it's owner it cancels the task (cause it's done) but the game generates absolutely irrelevant message. There's the bug.

Further investigation shows, that this message pops BEFORE cat takes the remains... So, don't pay attention on my prev message

Well they have paws, maybe they require arms to carry refuse to the stockpile?
