I'm working on setting up a relatively new fortress.  The site has river, chasm, an underground river/pool (i forgot which), HFS, and a magma pipe that reaches to the surface.

All of my dwarves are securely inside my fortress, yet I continually get announcements that they're being interrupted by a lizardman.  I've searched the entire fortress, but there aren't any creatures inside other than 7 dwarves and 2 tame animals (1 horse and 1 mule).  I've even scoured the entirety of the unit list, and there aren't any lizardmen anywhere on the map, though there seem to  be around 200 ratmen and batmen, along with some other things.

I'm thinking that my fortress is getting close to the underground river/pool, and that the 'interrupted by "x"' event is based solely on proximity, regardless of detection or the ability to see the problem creature.

Anyone know how to fix this?  My fortress is grinding to a complete halt!

EDIT:  I was actually right on top of the underground river, so that explains where the creature was, but still - should my dwarves be interrupted by a creature that's in an area that hasn't even been discovered yet?

Where X's are walls, the O's a dwarf, and the ~'s are part of the river. The dwarf may have been able to see diagonally through the gaps in the walls when you couldn't.

Just a possibility that I thought of.

That might have done it, theoretically, but that's not the case here.  Here's what it was lined up as:

Where Xs are walls, the Os are up/down stairs, the ~ is water, the L is the lizardman, and the A is a dwarf on up/down stairs.

=/  I don't see hoe they could see through that....

Do you still have a save for this?  The sight line code stops at floors and walls, so I'm not sure how the dwarf is being disturbed.  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

Sadly, the entire region was corrupted when my computer died mid-game.  Damned lightning.  I lost half of my files.

If I encounter it again, though, I'll be sure to upload it.

I once had a fort that was neatly carved in the z-level right above an underground sealed magma pipe. I didn't realize I was doing this until I made two central downward stairs to expand, and broke into a caldera. Thereafter, I floored over the stairs to avoid dwarves getting interrupted, which didn't help. If the imps were beneath the floors then dwarves passing directly by would get interrupted, and I had to use traffic tool to keep dwarves away from the floored-over stairs.

This fort crumbled for unrelated reasons (50 kobolds in year 1, raw hacking has consequences) and when I reclaimed it, the caldera was undiscovered, despite only being segregated from the fortress by constructed floors. However, dwarves were still being interrupted by a Fire Man through these floors when we moved inside.

Noble Digger - that's an interesting incident, similar to mine.  Gah, I shudder at the year 1 rush you mentioned.

Toady One - I'll see if I can recreate the incident when I can, so I might be able to provide a good save for you to look at.  Considering the situation, all I need to do is embark over an underground river and tunnel close to it.  I'll update you when I can.

Remember: the $10 part incinerates to save the 10 cent fuse from blowing.

Does it help that the lightning blasted through my window and directly struck the surge protector?  None of the wiring in the house was affected at all.  Just the surge protector and my computer.

I highly doubt that lightning came through the glass on your window instead of striking a higher, yet equally conductive object, such as a TELEPHONE POLE.

On August 6, 1994 a ball of lightning went through a closed window in Uppsala, Sweden, leaving a circular hole with a diameter of 5 centimeters.

Quite rare, but certainly possible.

Geh, whatever, I probably am wrong, I was just surprised when I heard a boom and things around me caught on fire.  Whatever happened, I'm glad I wasn't actually *using* the computer at that second.
