is there a quick way to find a shopkeeper in a dwarf city?  I feel like ive been wandering around forever with a backpack of junk to unload.

no. human towns are the only one with shops. you can mod elf towns to have shops by adding the city tag as their defalt site. but before modding dwarf towns are just big caves with no shops and their leader randomly wandering around. elf towns are just forests with elfs wandering around

The game being "Dwarf Fortress" I guess I just expected more out of dwarf towns in adventure mode.

This is my 2nd attempt and it appears that this one will end either starving or dehydrating while trying to get to the end of this tunnel.

Well, the "Dwarf Fortress" part only comes in for "Dwarf Fortress" mode. Adventure mode gives all races egual chances of dieing horribly.

The real dwarf shops are the ones you make in your own forts. Except that when you visit those everybody is dead and the stuff is all free.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Elven, goblin and dwarven sites are only placeholders anyways.
