Cancels shooting at archery range: No floor space

Thats because I have more archers than targets???? Is that right?  I think so.  Validate.  Thanks.

Never seen that one.

But I suspect it's because you haven't set the target's direction correctly and the dwarf is trying to pathfind into a wall or over an open space to find a shooting location.

Or there isn't enough distance between the archery target at the archer.  There needs to be atleast one empty space in between.

I've gotten that when I designate a 1x1 square with the target as a range. Now I design my ranges like this:

Code: [Select]
X = Wall
T = Target

X X X
XTXTX
XXXXX

I have to agree with Lord Dullard.
It is most likely because the shooting direction for the Archery range was set incorrectly

I saw this cancellation message once in an old fortress. I checked and all the archery targets were correctly set. Though you had to go through the archery range to get to the barracks, so it often got busy at times - that may well have been the reason.

I've gotten "cancels X: no floor space" messages when a mason had managed to wall himself into a 1-tile alcove, so watch out for that.

I got this message in an archery range when I had to build an emergency butchers shop between the edge of the range and the target. I had been negligent in providing food and things were getting ugly.

You might also get that message if the dwarf in question had fallen victim to dwarven "justice" and was locked up.

Most of the time with archery targets it is most of the time you have set up the targets wrong.  Remeber that the direction you put is the direction they shoot, not the direction they stand.

Stupid!  It was pathing.

I put my targets abut a wall with a channel in front of them, the channel boxed in by steps down.

A slightly different setup.  Targets abut a wall boxed in by doors, a channel in front of the targets.

There was always diagonal access near the steps to the targets, but while targeting the dwarves didnt take that into account.

Installed floor grates - problem solved.
