Never mind. Seems it was by Denis Diderot.

Had to look it up myself,* but it was Jean Meslier; Diderot referenced it with a similar but somewhat different line.

*I did remember it was from 18th century France, but I thought it was from the Revolution.  Ah, well, close.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

I found that reference myself, but the quote's authenticity had been disputed in the relevant discussion page on Wikipedia. It seems to be properly cited in the article itself (but only using French sources, so I can't read them myself), so I guess that's pretty reliable after all.

If you wanted to be precise, however, you'd note that the version you paraphrased was closer to Diderot's quote after all. Cf.:
1. In his most famous quote, Meslier refers to a man who:

...wished that all the great men in the world and all the nobility could be hanged, and strangled with the guts of the priests.[8]
vs
2.Equally well-known is the version by Diderot: "And [with] the guts of the last priest let's strangle the neck of the last king."[10]

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

It's not like we're derailing a thread that's pretty random anyway.

When you look at a spot with more than a couple body parts like legs it says a few corpse chunks.

I just noticed that constructed walls resist caveins the same as natural ones.

or maybe throw them into the large hadron collider to atom-smash them instead.
Not to mention to throw all available animals into tiny pits.

Not adventure mode, but...

zones that are hot enough to set your dwarves aflame come with a warning on the zone properties menu.

Rain, when it's hot enough, will turn to steam when it hits (possibly going through a brief 1/7 stage, not sure here)

Thrown objects clear some smoke from their path (not noticeable usually but if you look for it).

Single walls not connected to any other walls, when you look at them, say 'Rough whatever pillar' instead of wall.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.

You can create a ruin by killing all the residents of a forest retreat.

You can do that with human towns too. Even dwarven ones, I think.

Cool. Does it actually destroy the buildings as well in a human town?

Nope. Buildings are undamaged. You just de-populate the town, nothing else.

You can grab clothes with a shield. Kinda makes me wonder how that would work with a sock.

You can throw a wood axe and slice through a spearmaster's spear hand and magically slice his head off and cut him in half all in the same turn.

Usually what happens is that you pierce all the organs in the chest cavity with an arrow. DF uses a model of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, where all possible injuries exist simultaneously. Then, when you observe the injuries list, all organs collapse.

Hydras don't notice you if you throw a cyclops at them and it break their face.
