More advanced options on Workshop Profiles/ Job Manager
« on: September 04, 2008, 11:44:56 am »

I'm a little bit strange when it comes to neatness, and I've abandoned a few fortress' just because I couldn't deal with the stress of stone covering every floor, or not being able to have symmetrically placed farms because of poor planning.

Currently, I'm making a luxurious 30 chair/30 table dining room, and have set up a functional mason's work shop in the area the dining room will later be. However, as previously explained...I'm pretty mental about neatness and symmetry, and I absolutely need all of my tables and chairs to be made out of the same colour materials (preferably even very same material, but I can just about get by).

My problem is, around the area of the dining room, numerous different stones (of an assorted range of colours) are present, and I'm afraid to issue the order for 30 chairs and tables, because I'm almost certain they will all come out in different colours. My current solution to this is to build my entrance-hole tower out all the coloured stone, but this is taking ages and I'd prefer to get started right away. (I realise I could use custom stock-piles, but atleast this way my tower is progressing while solving the problem).

My suggestions are therefore: On the workshop profile screen, in addition to designating acceptable workers, to also be able to designated what types of stone may be used. Also, on the new job screen, one should have the choice of giving the new order to particular workshops, a group of workshops, or simply as it is currently in which no workshop in particular takes responsibility.

why not build 50 tables?  you'll need extras for noble's rooms and whatnot...

Oh, and your suggestion is part of the stickied post at the top of this forum
