Suddenly everyone sees it - a large cruising missile ripping through the air above the city, headed straight for the center. It doesn't look like it's going to just pass by, either. And by the size of it, it's probably a nuke.

I do everything possible to live. EVERYTHING!
| With an unimaginable effort of mind and body, you manage to climb out of the pitch black pit of unconsciousness to let loose one last cry of pain and fear, before everything around you suddenly explodes into light and fades to black with a rending crash and a wave of pain.

I noticed that someone tried to push the button but failed so I do it!
| It takes you some time to figure out where you are and what to do. Realising the path upwards is clear, you gather all your force and jump! You burst out of your impromptu bunker with a cry, and lunge for the green rug and panel, but before you can reach them a blinding flash of white light fills your vision, you momentarily feel a wave of scorching heat pass over your body, and then everything is black.
I try to TK - catch the nuke in mid-air, buying us some time.
| You see the approaching missile, and decide that this is your only chance. You climb onto the roof of the van, and take aim as the missile passes overhead, focusing your TK energies onto it. Silently whispering a prayer to yourself, you let loose with everything you have!! The backlash slams you against the roof, and then everything is filled with impossibly bright light and fades to darkness.
I push the button.
| The zombies push you back, plowing through the defence line and charging at the center of the crater! Frelock brings up his forcefield around the people at the rug, trying to defend against the onslaught, but the zombies surround them! Rage fills you, and you cry in rage and despair! Charging your sword with your telekinetic energy, you run through the decomposing ranks of your enemies, slashing left and right, killing everyone and everything in your way! But you cannot reach the rug. As you are tripped by a disturbingly live dead body of a little girl, you feel a wave of heat approach, and after a blinding flash that penetrates your closed eyelids, everything turns to black.
I try and find some more ammo. four is not very many. If no one has the dwarf, I grab him first.
| You charge through the zombies to reach the dwarf, but it is too late for him, it seems. You are forced to continuously fight off more and more zombies that try to feast on his flesh. You hear someone cry out nearby. You manage to throw the mass of walking dead away, earning a tiny strip of time to look in the direction of the city's center. The central tower suddenly explodes at the top and begins to collapse, when suddenly you feel a heat wave, and everything before you blasts into pure light before becoming completely dark.
If we fail to press the button I get as far away from the city as possible with my scramjet. If we get back to the cube I try to repair my armor.
| For a moment, your faith in your comrades leaves you. Or maybe it is your armor acting on its own. Disregarding all possible consequences, you charge up your scramjets, and just burst through what remains of the building, upwards, up and away from this doomed city!
| The floors crack and begin falling apart from the damage they sustained, and the building begins to sway visibly. Its top floors are blown apart, debris flying everywhere. You manage to see the missile approach, but then you are hit with a shockwave of unimaginable force that makes you lose consciousness while the world around you disappears in an explosion of pure white light.
I'll defend everybody against the zombies.
| As the horde of zombies penetrates your defence line, you can come up with only one solution. INFERNOO!!! Focusing your will on your ring, you make the circle of white flame around you burst outward like a nova, scorching every thing, living or no, with unimaginable heat. The zombies are burned to a crisp, but you fear you may have caught some allies in it as well. But you don't have the time to worry about it, because shortly after everything you see turns to blasts of pure white light, then suddenly fades to darkness.

As the fierce (and fiery) battle rages on behind them, three adventurers stand before the dim green panel. The navy blue omnimech makes as much haste as he can to reach the site, but he will not be there on time. The harbinger of peace lies unconscious nearby, unable to help. Of the three, one man in brilliant white robes holds the fort against the raging horde of zombies using his forcefield. Another, a humanoid feline in a worn jacket, holds up an open suitcase. The third, a man wreathed in lightning, takes something out of the case, and in the same instant, the panel on the rug before him lights up brightly. For a few seconds, the man looks around, looking at what they left behind. But the other two hasten him, and he stoops down toward the panel. As he reaches for the corner button, the sky is suddenly lit up with a bright flash, but then the button is pushed, making the world around everyone explode into pure light.
Transcendence!!! Boksi:{5} This shift is already routine for Boksi, and it does not affect him.
andrea:{2} Andrea gets a bad shock from touching the panel for some reason, and is rather dazed when coming out on the other side.
Frelock:{1} Frelock seems to be allergic or intolerant to worldshift. He's utterly nauseated by this one too, it almost turns him inside out.
Gantolandon:{4} Gantolandon managed to remain conscious through the shift, even after the impact against the roof. Looking around in the cube, he notices that… the armored van has shifted with him!!!
Kashyyk:{1} Kashyyk is very disoriented by the shift, but thankfully he cannot vomit.
korora:{5} The mind of korora, probably no longer biological in nature, easily withstands the shift's effects.
LASD:{3} LASD carries through the shift as well as any unconscious man would.
chaoticag:{3} Chaoticag is mildly nauseated by the shift, but it passes quickly.
Rooster:{1} Rooster's new physiology seems to be rather susceptible to violent planar shifts, and he's utterly confused and nauseated by this one.
Jay Kayell:{1} JK is unconscious, but even so he doesn't feel so good after this shift.
Zako:{6-3} Zako is almost dead anyway, and passing through the shift doesn't make him feel any worse. Or not. He manages to notice that the entire elevator has been brought along with him. And it's dark inside. Moreover, no longer suspended by cables, the elevator drops to the ground, pushing Zako through the torn hole, leaving deep lacerations all over his body. Thankfully, the cube reacts quickly to his gruesome wounds and poor state. Almost a dozen green orbs shoot out of the ceiling and clear through the elevator walls, healing him. He still passes out from the pain.
Neo:{3} Neo is mildly inconvenienced by the shift, but is rather pleased to find the suitcase still in his hands, and its deadly contents still present as well.
Kosak:{3} The dwarf manages to keep in contact with Kashyyk (again) through the shift, and comes out on the other side. Rather torn, bloody and battered, but still alive.
After everyone shifts, you are surprised to find out that the lights in the cube are out. However, after a couple of seconds, the lights start flickering and are soon shining again. Andrea's shock must have had something to do with it. It's still largely the same cube. The pedestal marked VIII is glowing.

NPC Actions:
Allied: A stocky bearded creature that is the dwarf. Once a Keeper of Nogzulban, this dwarf has travelled with your company almost by accident. Clad in shiny plate armor with a chainmail underneath, this dwarf could be a potent warrior. Armed with a notched axe, but cannot use it properly. (+1 target dodge) Almost dead.
The dwarf tries to fight, for all that it's worth.
| Even with many injuries he's sustained, he helps Kashyyk who stands over him, by slashing the legs from under the zombies that get too close, and then decapitating them. He feels that the strange disease is overtaking his body, but that's the least of his concerns at that point.
Neutral: Woman in red: We will never know what happened.
Cube: The cube reacts to the presence of all the people in it, and shoots out green orbs, mending various injuries and erratic states that are still possible to fix. Including Boksi's leg and the dwarf's disease.
Enemy: Street Zombie Dogs:{1} The dogs retreat and merge with the general crowd of zombies.
Corporate guards:{1} Seeing the approaching nuke, the guards just stand on the roof apathetically, waiting for death to come.
Big mutant thug: He disappeared out of sight, and now we'll never know what happened.
Rampaging zombies:{4} The zombies push chaoticag back and burst through this breach in the line of defence! Frelock's field stops them, and they are sizzled by Boksi's fire, but they are relentless and keep fighting to the end.
Nuke: The nuke does not impact the buildings, but explodes some three hundred meters above the ground level, filling the sky with a bright flash. Its shockwave doesn't have enough time to reach anyone though, because the worldshift occurred more or less at the same time as the detonation. Even JK was not touched.

Artifacts: "The ring consists of a toroidal adamantine core surrounded by a shell of tempered steel with thin bands of gold along the rims of the ring. Set into an adamantine frame on its top is a Star Sapphire imbued with the dark soul of a Greater Demon, under absolute control of the wearer. The steel surface of the ring is covered by three hundred tiny tiles of granite, engraved with images of various creatures, all being dead.
The wearer of the ring may call onto the soul of the demon, which can manipulate darkness and fire - anything from direct projection to creating sentient forms to giving protection against.
The wearer can also give an order to summon a creature mad with rage (any creature from the DF world you have seen), which will use up one or several of the stone tiles, depending on the power of the creature. The tiles may be restored, but only through personally killing sentient creatures with bare hands and absorbing their essence with the ring, which also adds that creature to the ""summonable creatures"" list.
The price to pay for all this power is a constant aura of darkness that any living being will feel (and will react accordingly), and the wearer may, under critical stress, give in and become controlled by the trapped demon soul.
(No passive bonuses. In a single turn, you can either perform an act of darkness/fire manipulation (including creating a prolonged effect), or summon a creature/creatures, but not both. The magnitude and potential of both depend on your skill - the ring grants ""basic level"" only. You can only absorb the essence of a creature you killed with your own bare hands, and only if it died last turn, at most.)

Environment:
Dark Metal Cube: A large dark metal cube, 10 meters to a side. The floor is covered by a rug of a greenish color, that feels like moss to the touch. The ceiling glows with a uniform white light, leaving no significant shadows in the room. Along three of the walls, there are 9 pedestals, marked "I" through "IX". The pedestal marked "IV" is encased in a pillar of green crystal. The "VIII" pedestal is glowing. On the fourth wall, there is a green panel with nine yellow buttons, also marked "I" through "IX", and two smaller buttons, one marked "X" in the upper right corner, and one marked "Hepl" in the bottom left. The "IV" button on the panel is depressed and glowing green. On the same wall there are hatches with latches, leading to quantum underwear stockpiles. The red light surrounding one of the hatches is gone.
