Elf is a Human Leader?
« on: August 31, 2008, 03:38:36 am »

When looking through the [c]civilization screen, and selecting a human faction. I found an Elf Hammer Lord as a leader in the Human faction.  Is this a bug or is the Elf a traitor?  I didn't think Elves can use hammers.  Is it possible for Humans or Goblins to move into my fortress with me?

EDIT: this is version 40c

Note: I highlighted the elf in green to show it.

Does everyone understand the difference now?

I believe this is a feature. Presumably the elf was captured during historical raiding and joined the army (possible offspring of said capture) and then got elected as election dont ask for race first. Dont know about the hammer thing though.

Nothing unusual if you look at the many human leaders many goblin civs, for example, have, or at the composition of the towns within the world.

You will often find a racially rather mixed population. Maybe some people were captured during battles like Cryton mentioned, but maybe some people also chose deliberately to live with another race.
Just think of the USA during its early days, although it was rather uncommon to have white people living in indian tribes, it wasnīt impossible (sometimes even leading to massacres when some religious white settlers couldnīt stand it when other white settlers chose to rather live among indians than among other whites ;) )

Dwarf fortress is highly anti-racist.

That does not apply to Elves however. Elves deserve to die.

Like I said before. Elves are only good for two things.

Killing and porn.

I've had goblin sieges in fortress mode led by elves before - it's how you tell a true vile force of darkness from your standard issue one. :)

Isn't it likely that that human civ lost a war and a few cities to elves, who set up one of their own to rule, given that the leader alone is elfin?

He probably ate their last leader and has been among them in secret ever since.

It's weird to visit goblin forts with no goblins in.
Or one goblin who murdered all the rest.

A good chance for you to have dwarf skull totems and dwarf leather clothes without having to wait for a dwarf that goes into a murderous fey mood ;D
