Fire
« on: August 30, 2008, 12:26:57 am »

Has anyone done anything crazy with lighting things on fire? For example one time I lit an area outside of a tavern on fire and then proceeded to go to sleep in the tavern...

I woke up on fire.

It turned out that some stupid peasant had walked through the flames and caught on fire, and then proceeded to go and sleep in the same bed that I was in, leading to the fire spreading to me.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Fire spreads slower than you would think. People sleep after seting fires so they wont have to wait for the fire to spread

Well at the time I was trying to convert the remains of about forty creatures that I had killed and the three companions that died fighting them into bones. You can do this with a fire, but it takes forever to destroy all of their stuff, and if you teleport away it all just vanishes. So I was sleeping.

You need very controlled conditions to safely process corpses on a fire.

- Don't do it in town, the locals will mess junk up.

- Always use shrubs instead of trees. You can put things on top of a shrub before you light it, lighting trees relies on the fire spreading, which you don't want.

- Try not to do it on grass. A shrub in a desert is probably the best place. Remember that you can trample grass, walk back and forth on the grass around the chosen shrub. Dirt and rock won't catch fire.

- It is very very important to do it near a body of water (and have about normal swimming). If the fire gets out of control for whatever reason, if you immediately (as in instantly) jump into water you'll survive. If at all possible light the fire next to a pool or river and go to the other side to sleep.

- Tip: You can sneak and sleep at the same time if it makes you feel safer.

Nothing, I just wanted to have some sort of a massive burial pyre for my departed companions. Plus, one of the reasons that I didn't do it in a desert, other than it taking forever and even sneaking I probably would have been seen, (I had no skill in ambusher at the time) I wanted to see how much of the town I could catch on fire.
