I started out a human adventurer with the name Urist because I was being particularly unimaginative. I talked to a human macelord and he commented "Urist... your parents must have been interesting!". Is this random or is he suggesting that I'm half-dwarf?

What I was saying is that when they greet you, there is a completely random chance in game for them to say one of the things in that file.

No, its even says in the tag its for an "unusual first" name. As in, any name you typed thats not in their language. They will always deliver those kind of greetings for those names. Nothing random.

It can be in their language.  If you type it in yourself, it will be considered unusual.  You could have a dwarf named Urist and other dwarves (named Urist) would ask if your name meant something.

Doesn't matter what it is, so long as you type it in yourself, it will be considered unusual.
