I usually assumed America was a holy place full of stablity that most people would go into before they realize that great advice from Satan: "Better to rule in Hell than to be a servant in Heaven."

What happened to cause America to, well, sink?

EDIT: Hey, I'm just curious about MMORPG politics. Very interesting.

Oh man, I can go on all day lol. Since we have 51 regions, we have a cluster-f*** of a congress who constantly makes bad decisions, our entire economy seems to be managed by a guy who's been playing for a couple of months and who randomly increases tax rates when he get's bored, our president is a complete idiot who thinks he's some sort of god, our companies are being slowly screwed over, our dollar is pretty much worthless, recently most of our federal funds were stolen by our ex-president for 'lulz' , our unemployment rate is the 3rd highest in the world and the government keeps declaring pointless wars which we have never won.. ever.. We even lost to France and Canada lol..

I've thought about just quitting all-together, but I think I would rather just try moving to a smaller country first and see how it plays out.

Any DF players still active in Erepublik? I'm level 17 living in USA with a fair amount of cash on hand and I'm thinking of moving to Thailand to get off this sinking ship called America.

Skills: 7.09 Construction, 8.314 Strength

There are still a few of us left in Thailand.

If you come to Thailand, I can promise you a lovely sub-subsistence-wage job in our national defense system company. We're almost done with our first system! After only two months!

<sigh>

(I'm on my third term as VP; I'd be running for Pres this month but RL looks too dangerous in terms of unpredictable schedule changes, so I stepped aside for Nov's ex-Pres at the last minute.)

Well, I have been playing and think it is time that I found where the others are.

So where are you?

Also, more importantly, I finally reached level 7, so it says I can join a party. What one comes closest/is the official DF one?

Woah. All I had in my mind was, "Nations with high population do better than nations with low population, and since America have a high population, America is a utopia."

I guess this does argue against having universal standards of goverence...especially when said universal standards are hard-coded and can't be changed on a whim by the playerbase.

For the record, the Pattana Unity Party candidate Jack Roberts is currently down four votes to the TNT candidate who couldn't bother to make even a one-paragraph platform. Yes, the same TNT candidate who after being in eThailand for less than a month and with no position other than Congress member and president of the second largest party chose to submit a proposal to give his SO all the Gold in the eThai treasury to, um, ya know, do stuff to help the economy with. Maybe subsidize some companies or something? Stuff like that. Details to be hammered out later.

I'm torn between asking any random pretty-much-but-maybe-not-completely-gone B12 eCitizens to pop back in to vote against him, and just hoping he wins so I'll have an excellent reason to become an ex-eCitizen myself, sooner rather than later.

(Qwerty: we're in PUP.)

I just closed out my character. Its obvious that the admins have stopped caring about the game seeing as congressional votes STILL aren't public. Thats congressmen voting, not who voted for which congressmen. Ealb, I sent you my Q3 house and I donated to Jack 1 Q1 house, 1 Q2 house, and the money raised from the final lottery I managed to never hold. Just stocked up on food, so if you need an extra peon voting just post here and I will.

Edit: I see that the admins added an open letters to the admins section of the forum. God they manage to pick the stupidest stuff to work on.

I've been reading the open letter forums, and the admins are amusing.

On kicking people from the party:

We consider that this feature will be abused constantly to remove political opponents just before the party elections. Also, we want to focus our energy in adding more useful features like the party ads and a better communication within the party.

So they are saying that parties are always going to be at risk of a massive influx of outsiders because gosh dang it, thats the way it should be.

Well, to  be fair, if it wasn't for us, eThailand might be in a bigger mess than it would be...

Outside forums, at the least, provide some sort of tight-knit community that can actually coordinate. They tend to act hivemindy, but at least they'll spend more time working together and less them questioning.

Bu... bu... but I have it on good authority from a member of the "New TNT" that if we have public voting records in eRepublik, it'll lead inevitably to tyranny of the majority because the president will then be able to "not only extradite [dissenters] but to exclude them because they are not 'conforming'".

Seriously. EThailand is apparently too small to have accountability in Congress because if they do it'll lead to political oppression like you see in Zimbabwe. No, really. His choice of example.

I'll try to put it to some good use, though ATM I feel like any use that encourages anyone to keep playing that game a priori can't be good. At least not on a moral level.

Servant Corps:

All you say is sad but true. The three major power axes I saw in eThailand in my time all had some common out-of-game connection holding them together and focusing them. All the ad hoc coalitions tend to spend an awful lot of time sputtering about, stepping on each other's feet, and fighting for leadership roles. Just the ground-level trust derived from having some known identity outside of eRepublik seemed to do wonders for the amount of cooperation in organize groups. Not even vaguely surprising, that, but still.

Just popping in to say I admire that line of thought.

I don't play, but I just had to say that.
