While I think he's just hating the game out of self-validation, I do have to stand up for Ioric on one point.  Jackrabbit, you're still missing his criticism of the bomb, namely the "THE CRATER OF AN UNEXPLODED BOMB" part.  Why would there be a crater, if the bomb didn't explode?

However, the situation itself is not quite as ridiculous as it appears.  I don't know if anybody's mentioned it yet, but the imagery of World War III survivors worshiping an unexploded bomb is almost as old as the genre, and was already a cliche of post-apocalyptic fiction by the 1960s.  Even Futurama made fun of the idea years ago.  Bethesda didn't think up the stupid idea, it's a tribute to a very old stupid idea.

The crater was the result of a crashed aircraft as well as the bomb.

You weren't even trying to make sense with the post before this were you?

Last I checked, (and I live in America so we have some experience with these things) aircraft do not leave large craters when they crash.

Plane crashes later hit with an unexploded nuclear bomb might. And besides, Rule of Cool.

I notice you accused me of not trying to make sense and didn't actually refute my argument.

What argument?  You're not even trying to argue.

Well I suppose I should thank you for defeating yourself...

Okay, wait, are you referring to

this argument, which all seem pretty valid to me.

I'm referring to all of them.  None of them are valid.  Considering that you weren't even the person I started this discussion with I wonder if you actually know what it's about.

Smitehappy asked what was silly about Megaton.  That's what I've been talking about the whole time.  If that's not what you're talking about, you aren't really arguing anything.  It's a town built in the crater of an unexploded nuclear bomb.  That there is stupid, and there's a guy who gives the first random stranger he sees a fusion detonator, or whatever it's called, in order to detonate an atomic bomb and destroy an entire town, because his boss thinks it's ugly.  And his boss is stupid too.... It's all exceptionally silly, and stupid.  It's not even evil, just stupid.

I've been explaining why you are wrong. The reasons you gave for Megaton being silly was, in my eyes, wrong so I disputed them.

Wow, it's so serious in here. Where's Yanlin?

"it became a city"

Some games close off certain sections so a place looks larger

No offense but Megaton doesn't even qualify as a hamlet... it is a freeken Thorp

I've kinda assumed that all the settlements in FO3 were bigger than they look. Lol, certainly all the cities settlements in FO3 can't just have 20 people at most? Fallout 2 was much bigger in that sense :P

While this is not wrong, I challenge anyone who gets hung up on the small size of Fallout 3's towns to open up the editor and try making an appropriately sized town.  With all the proper detail.  With NPCs worth talking to.  Then get a bunch of voice actors to supply that.

In the old Fallouts, the towns could be made in a couple hours by just placing some isometric walls, and maybe 5% of the "people" walking around actually had more dialogue than just random banter lines.  Without an army of level builders and loads of development time, you can have either size or detail, not both.

You didn't refute them, you supported them! ::)

200 years into the future (I think?) people seem to have forgotten what nuclear bombs are. Some people, anyway. Regardless, if the bomb hasn't exploded over all these years and the Children of Atom have lived here before them with no explosions, then they had every reason to assume it was safer then the mutant and raider infested wasteland

Completely ignoring my point that the town is built in the CRATER OF AN UNEXPLODED NUCLEAR BOMB.  If you can't see how that's stupid regardless of in game logic... I don't know what to say.

Quote
Crazy like a fox! What, did you expect everyone in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse to be sane? Besides, being crazy doesn't necessarily make people stupid.

This is not a response to nor argument against my statement.

Quote
I think that money would motivate people a lot more after the apocalypse. I think he gave the offer to anyone who looked like a mercenary and walked through the town and he probably had the presence of mind to set up a way to disappear, quickly, if need be.

Yeah, money's real good when you've just blown up the only place you know of to spend it, and irradiated the entire area for miles around.  Mister Burke is completely out of place in the town, immediately making him suspicious, but no one bothers him until some other suspicious stranger accuses him of trying to blow up the entire town.  He sits in the bar until a guy in a bright blue jumpsuit comes in, and immediately assumes that this person will be willing to blow up the entire town...

Quote
Besides, the Children of the Atom seem to want the thing to go off. They believe that an atomic explosion creates many different universes and as such view the war as a wonderful thing
...  Yeah, they're "Crazy" ... That's totally not stupid or silly at all.

And so we get the legendary, inevitable, selective-response-by-quote post.

Ioric, you are arguing with people over this forgettable game for no other reason than just proving yourself somehow "right".  Stop.  Stop while you still can.

Ha ha! Too late Aqizzar! Seriously though, this is my last post on the subject. It's just to stupid an argument to have. And yet I post.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, anyway. I haven't acquired Tesla armor yet. What's it like?

I like arguing.  It's you know, the alternative to beating each other with sticks, or just being quiet and accepting whatever you're told because you're afraid of being beaten with a stick.  That said, this isn't really an argument anymore, it's just someone talking at me in response to the fact that I've said something they don't think is right.

That is an argument! GAH! Don't do that!

Okay, backing down. Ioric, do you think we can finish this now? Can we agree to disagree and move on?

And explain the benefits of tesla armor?
