The problem with FO3 is that this happens even without the Bloody Mess perk (also, note that it's no longer a trait), and with the Bloody Mess perk it just looks plain stupid - shoot a guy in the head and all his limbs fly off. In FO1/2, without the trait, it required overkill amounts of damage. In FO3, it's as if only kills leaving exactly 0 hp left the head intact.

I have heard that at higher difficulty levels, heads tend to fly off less often, but if I had to watch enemies survive any more headshots than they did, I wouldn't have gotten to the end. I hope for the sake of others that some mod increasing the head-pop-damage-requirement comes out. As it is, it feels like dismemberment in SOF3.
People survived headshots in Fallout and I'm certain that if they could have shown more gruesome and bloody death details in the old games, they would have. If those in game descriptions aren't gruesome enough.

I was personally hoping they would go for comedic gore in FO3. Like animating "Raider sees his stomach hit the floor" and "sent wild dog to the [pound] in the sky" (or something like that). Little dog angels would have been awesome.

a poor gun in poor condition to the point of breaking with a poor gun skill to a guy with leather armor......how the heck does using the weakest combination NOT take 32 shots to the head?

Not to mention the guy is attacking a Caravan Guard. They're beefy as hell.

You're saying it's realisic for a human to be shot square in the face by a real gun with real bullets two dozen times and survive with no visible ill effects?

Also, minus twelvety billion points for creating a new account just so it looks like someone agrees with you.

Aye, that smacks of paranoia, especially given that the account was created a good 25 minutes before the post they were criticizing was posted...

Yeah, how could a working 10mm gun possibly take less than 32 shots to the head to kill?

I'm pretty sure you'd have better luck with a pipe rifle or bb gun in FO 1/2.

Besides, next up he used a decent condition 10mm SMG (24 dps rating) and it still took 10+ headshots plus some torso shots to kill Doc Hoff.

YOU'RE ALL MICRO102, AREN'T YOU

Seriously, I could be wrong, but I find it rather coincidental that someone signs up today and the first thing they post is one line in an ongoing discussion that's over 20 pages long, on a topic nothing to do with B12, practically finishing the guy's sentence and missing the point in the exact same fashion.  It could be the same person, it could be a friend of said person.  It could be neither, but that's even more scary.

I could care less, really; within a year every problem with the game will have been evened out by modders. Well, with the possible exception of the general bugginess, but still, every game balance issue will be addressed, I should think.

omg i couldnt stop laughing when i saw this, better then some comedy shows

but seriously i would not do that. especially for something as small as this. although i do see your suspiciuon (im just gonna spell it like that for now)

ive never used a gun let alone seen a broken one. but if it was damaged enough. i think it would barley break the skin. and since accuracy is point and shoot im sure poor gun skills counts the lessened damage as missed shots in real life. i think i better question would be.

if you took a broken gun for the first time and tried to shoot someone in the head until they were dead how many bullets do you think it would take? also note that the damage resistance from his leath armour (pretty good armor) also goes to his head...dont know why

and form a purely game stand point. if it didnt work like that then the weapons wouldn't have vary varying damages and the game would become like call of duty 4, it all depends on how fast you can twitch....and vats doesnt help that problem.

Perhaps unfortunately, it doesn't work like that.  I'm no expert, but I think I can say without fear of contradiction that a broken/poorly maintained gun is highly likely to jam and not fire at all, perhaps even misfire and hurt the holder.  But there's still the same amount of explosive charge and the same weight of metal projectile- if it does go off, the bullet will be travelling at the same speed, certainly enough to kill or at the very least disfigure and brain-damage anyone it strikes in the face at point-blank range.  So if I were to do that... since we're assuming that the the gun does fire and the bullet does hit them... one.

Yeah, it makes some sense from the game standpoint, but that's the problem- it forces you to the awareness that you're playing a game.

if you throw a ball and it goes 40 mph, then if you throw a ball and it hits a chain (aka a dent or obstruction in the barrel) it will go slower right? also its tradgectory will change. so why factor in jamming, missing, and slower bullets when they can average it all into damage change?

Because you'd need a hell of a long barrel to actually slow a bullet to a semi-safe velocity.  If a gun jams, it doesn't fire, nor will it again until repaired.  If it fires, it fires.

Once again, I understand the reasoning behind it, really I do.  However, no amount of reasoning changes the fact that what you see in the game is totally unrealistic, and ruins suspension of disbelief.
