I keep trying build a door.  The dwaves will hault the door to the site, but the dwarves keep canceling construction because "item blocking site"  The only thing on the site is a piece of basalt.  I marked the stone for dumping, but the dwarves ignore it (but they will dump any other stone I mark).

On a related note, when a 3x3 chamber has only diagonal entrances, building a workshop inside seems to be impossible without dumping all of the stone inside because dwarves will declare the site to be unreachable while they are in the middle of clearing the stone out.  Does this have something to do with dwaves needing an adjacent space (rather than a diagonal space) to stand in while they construct furniture?

Not sure, but I think if you unmark it for dumping the dwarves will just move the basalt aside when they put the door in.

At least, I've only ever encountered problems with 'item blocking site location - dwarves cancelled construction of door' when the rock in the doorway had been designated for dumping.

Are you building walls or floors with stone right around there?  If that stone is marked for use in building, the only way to get it moved is to cancel whatever job is using it(by cancelling the construction of the building) or by letting the building get built.

Also they will not move an item out of the way if the only place they can move it to is a diagonal.  I think that might be the bug you are experiencing.

From what I recall, if the object is for another pending or active job, they will not move it out of the way until that other job is complete or canceled.

Annoying really.
