Diamond and Emerald.  I was absolutely certain that the only reason Diamond was more rare and expensive IRL was because of the DeBeers monopoly.  Yet there it was, with a LOT of effort put into making Diamonds both more expensive and a bitch and a half to find.

Cinnabar always throws me for a loop... probably because I'm expecting most * to be something smeltable(I know that's not true).

Plus makes it me think of Cinnamon Rolls.

I have (had?) a site with both cinnabar and microline, every bedroom had a cabnit and chest made of either material (I think it was the chests made of cinnabar) and I was in the process of doing it to tables and chairs to.

Lucky for you there's no mercury poisoning yet in DF.

Yeah rly. When I saw cinnabar I immediately thought mercury, but never minded it. It was red, so I built tables and walls out of it. Platinum bridges are fun :)

yea and micronite is blue. when i first struck it i immediately thought of adamantine and then of the demon pits, which i have yet to encounter in a game. so i nearly shat myself until i checked the name (or indeed the announcement)

Because of this thread, I looked up a few rocks and minerals found in the game.

My WTF moment was looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivine where is said that olivine has "Poor Cleavage". :o

Same here, about Cinnibar.  I'm sure you'll eventually be able to smelt mercury out of it.  And weaponize it, presumably.

How DF treats things, there would be little value to mercury.  It was used in gold and silver prospecting, but not the type of mining that DF represents.

It may be of use once the Alchemist's Lab becomes more than a soap factory.

Thats a good idea. The difficult part would be to come up with something that isn't ridiculous, aka magic.

A quicksilver moat that drowns and poisons people would be pretty sweet.

It wouldn't drown them very easily.  According to wiki, mercury is about 13.5x as dense as water, and even about 1.7 times as dense as iron.  So even in a full suit of iron plate mail, you'd still easily float on the stuff

1 word: Water beds! But with mercury! It would be a strange feeling. You could use it for poison tip arrows.
