I just came across a tile which consisted of nothing - not even open space!
It was marked as "Indoor, light, above ground", though had no floors above it. There was nothing at all listed as existing in the tile, the graphic was completely black, and the tile was marked as 'blocked' when trying to construct anything on it (wall, floor, ramp, bridge).
Pouring water onto the tile froze instantly. Channelling the resultant block of ice returned the tile to it's void state. Digging a ramp, and then removing that ramp had the same effect.
If the tile is just plain mined out, it becomes void again. If the mining creates a block of water, still absolutely nothing is listed as on the tile. This water
is listed on the stocks screen, however (and zoom points me to it).
However, if I mine the tile into a ramp, and then mine out all the adjacent tiles, so that the ramp is annihilated, I end up with an apparently normal "Snow-covered Ice" tile.
I'm unsure as to the exact procedure for creating it, as I'm pretty sure there was freezing, thawing, mining and constructing involved. How I
think it went was:
1. Dug ramp into frozen murky pool tile.
2. Constructed "water" pillar on tile.
3. Pool defrosted, filled with water. (this may not be important, as the ice pillar remained)
4. Next Winter came.
5. The top of the pillar *might* have become icy from a water spillage which froze, or was only snowed upon.
6. Channeled out the (icy/snowy) floor above the pillar.
7. Deconstructed the pillar.
8. Removed the ramp which remained.
9. Void!
I had several other pillars in the same pond to which this didn't happen. I believe this was the only one of them built on top of a dug-out ice ramp though.
Two save dirs, one before and one after I uncovered the tile:

The game is 0.28.181.40c, as shipped (bar init changes), and run under Wine.
