Thieves=Burglar Alarm?
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:58:21 am »

I just witnessed an amusing incident.  I got the "Thief!  Protect the hoard!" message, but couldn't see any of my dwarves or animals nearby.  Turns out a raccoon and a kobold thief spotted each other, allowing ME to see them.  Neither turned and fled like they normally do when I spot them, so I was looking forward to actually catching one of the @#$@!ers for once.  Alas, it was not to be.  Five steps later, they spotted a goblin snatcher (again giving ME vision of the new thief).  This was a bit too much for them, and all three freaked out and ran away.

The bug seems similar to bug 291, but it was different enough I figured I should submit it just in case.

I had a similar case back in 38c where a raccoon spotted a kobold for me. Apparently they don't like newcomers on their turf. :p

Zombie mountain goats savaging baby-snatchers!
ALSO, could there be an option for an announcement whenever a thief gets killed by a trap. I always double-take when my front door is full of corpses.

Raccoons don't sneak. They just grab things and run. So that might be part of it.

I don't. It's quite normal.

I think neutral animals might point out sneaking units, or that's how it seems to go for me.

Well, when some sneaking kobold is walking along and then steps on some poor raccoon's tail, causing a bloodcurdling wail to be emitted by the raccoon, it will probably attract the attention of at least one dwarf, even if they are all busy hallucinating from too much alcohol. ;D

That's what I figure.  I like when unicorns are disturbed: you've never SEEN kobolds butchered faster.  =->

That's pretty much how I interpret it each time this bug gets reported. Deer spots a kidnapper for you? Well, of course! Your scouts look to see what disturbed the deer.

I vote for it to be a feature (even if it was unintended...) ;D

I guess these things are kind of like the optimist/pessimist glass of water.

Forgot that raccoons steal but don't sneak.  Not a bug I guess.  Oops!

Now if two kobolds saw each other, or a kobold thief and a goblin babysnatcher, then it would be a bug. (as well as being absolutely hilarious!) ;D

This is why I keep my kitten hordes at the door. No-one can get in without me knowing.
