well unless we can get more players in the right timezone, a huge uproar against PbP, or some other way to do it real time, It has to be PbP doesn't it?

seems that we will have to use PbP. its not THAT bad, but it would focus more on story and very little on actual numbers and dicethrowing... its not that i mind a good story, but withought the rolling and numbers its not really my type of D&D... so we're at a complete impass for now: do it in PbP that doesnt even use numbers and much dice, or do it real-time with barely a few players or only ounce a year when all the players manage to get on at the same time...

actually, we could do a PbP WITH all the numbers and dicethrowing but that would be EXTREMELY slow

Y'know, I know several of us have already made characters in D&D, but how would everybody feel about a PbP game of Paranoia? It's much faster, more fun, body parts are flying, and the players don't necessarily need to know the rules in and out. (Actually, knowing the rules in and out is treason, and grounds for execution.)

What does everybody think?

You know, there's a site called thetangledweb.net that provides hosting services for character sheets that the other guys can see, a roll function within their forums, and specific threads for specific games. It's awesome. PbP would be easier there. Hell, that's where I stored my character sheet - it's incredibly easy.

There's also DnDOnline Games (which is where I've done most of my business) and Mythweavers (at least I'm pretty sure they do that kind of thing). The latter has a wealth of different kinds of character sheets (I was in an ill-fated GURPS game and a pair of Call of Cthulhu games) is the only reason I even really bring it up.

And while we're on the subject of different systems - why not use the d100 stuff CoC does? You try to roll under your ranks in the skill, which leads to nigh-constant failure of skills you aren't trained in and absurdly powerful use of those you are, add that to the fact that the highest possible HP is around 18, and you've basically got DF Adventure mode right there. Just make anything thrown do 3d6 damage and it's perfect.

Please note the above is technically a joke 'cause I don't think that's the style we're going for, but both games are basically hell-bent on killing anybody who pokes their nose out of their daily routine. 'Course, Cthulhu's just a numbers-stacked-against-you-thing rather than the brutal gritty 'realism' of DF.

Fun Fact #1: I now have the rule book for Paranoia. Which means I would be able to DM a game if anybody wants me to.  ;D

Fun Fact #2: I've managed to find a program that allows you to connect to a server and run Paranoia games in an Instant Messaging style environment, complete with a system for combat when things need to slow down. It's called JParanoia, and you can get it at www.paranoia-live.net. Just look under downloads. It does not work through a firewall (or if it does I haven't figured out how to make it work) so you may have to turn your off to get it to.

Fun Fact #3: I'd be happy to run a PbP game of Paranoia, if nobodies interesting in the above, but I need some time to, y'know, read the damn book first.  ;D

Went over the information on Paranoia a bit ago, sounds like a LOT of fun, if you do host a game of it on JParanoia, count me in!

Also, I think it is www.paranoia-live.net, the .com didn't work, and searching under google cam eup with the .net one.

I'm out. Sorry, but I just don't feel like learning a new system at the time. :/

I'm still up for the DnD game though.

I honestly can't decide if Paranoia sounds like the single most awesome concept for such a game or something that'll devolve into a bloody mess nobody can make sense of. Then again, that may just be what we're aiming for anyway.

I'll tentatively throw my hat into the ring as a player in a Paranoia game, either way we go. Though I do prefer the ever-hard-to-work-out IM environment.
