"Ryo" Monomkun: My own son. He is taking after his father as an architect, though his interests lie more with gadgets than masonry. He will be invaluable as an assistant at the construction site.
Yay, daddy ;D

Also, glad to know I've already been some help :)

I hope I am like some braindamaged mercenary that saved an entire kingdom with my bare hands and a sock.

Edit: Signaturing that before anyone else does. :P

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 21st Sandstone, Year 501, entry seven.

The traders have left, and we've nearly got our fledgling iron works up and running. Now, all we need is for Piledriver to find some ore, and we're good to go.

P.S.

Making Ryo work our wood was probably a mistake. Now he's donned a new hat, and is strutting around calling himself a "woodworker," making bins. Not a problem in itself - we need bins - but a boy his age shouldn't take to such flights of fancy. I'll set him straight later.

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 2nd Timber, Year 501, entry eight.

We've barely even begun work, and yet some few poor souls have begun wondering into our camp, looking for lodgings and a task for their hands. They'll get it. I could use a few more workers, actually. Get Ryo out of the woods and doing something constructive, like fiddling with his Mechanisms.

Roster of the migrants genders and professions to follow.

1 Milker
3 Peasants
1 Woodworker
1 Farmer
1 Planter
1 Cook

I apologize for the slowness in updates. Not a whole lot of interesting stuff is happening right now in-game, and I'm also juggling my new turn at the Eternal Fortress succession game (which I had not expected when I started this thread).

I'll be sure to make an update of some decent substance later tonight though.

One little question, while I'm here; what would you guys prefer - numerous quick and small updates as I am doing now, or bigger ones with a longer wait in between?

I guess I'd prefer the quick and short updates, though I'm fine with either.

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 3rd Moonstone, Year 501, entry nine.

One of the immigrants was a cook, it seems. Since much of what we've been eating up to this point of raw or amateurishly done meat and fish, it will do good to have some actually cooked meals prepared. He calls himself "Mincer," the kind of name that reminds me of Piledriver. Perhaps it's a fad, among commoners. Insanity.

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 6th Opal, Year 501, entry ten.

We were marauded today by a group of Rhesus Macaque, who scared everyone so much that barely any work got done until Zako finally came along and, along with the dogs, beat lot of them over the skulls with the hammer we brought along.

On the upside, the excitement seems to have served as fantastic entertainment, considering the usual prospects.

P.S.

Piledriver has just reported that we've finally struck Limonite. We can now start turning them into iron bars with the charcoal that we've cooked up so far. Once we find some Coal veins, we can start on the steel needed for the tower's supports.

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 23rd Granite, Year 502, entry eleven.

The elves showed up, looking to trade a bit. For the most part, they had only junk, but there were some few things I judged we needed. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of flashing a wooden craft in front of them, and they got all indignant and refused to negotiate further. However, we really need those berries they were willing to sell before. I argued with them, but the fools just wouldn't listen. So I had Zako seize the goods. That really ticked 'em off, but at that point, the only emotion I felt was amusement.

We'll probably not see them again.

You can use charcoal, you know, you don't have to find a coal vein.

Really? I thought that was the whole point. I've never bothered trying to make steel without bituminous coal first...

Well, that solves a few problems.

Journal of "James" Monomkun, 12th Slate, Year 502, entry twelve.

More eager migrants. It seems my little project - more aptly named a farce, or so I thought - has achieved some sense of popularity, even though we've only just begun the true stage of work, with our budding steel industry soon to be cranking out beams of solid steel.

The only problem is that we are still working on the apartments for the last wave. I have decided to forgo any more building of separate rooms - our "temporary" apartments are already moving on the fourth level of construction! - and simply create one large, communal sleeping house for the new migrants until we get proper lodgings set up in the new towers.

Roster of the newcomers following.

1 Leatherworker
1 Woodcrafter
1 Bone Carver
1 Carpenter
1 Cheese Maker
1 Child
1 Furnace Operator (Excellent)
1 Metalcrafter
1 Ranger (Potential apprentice for Zako?)
1 Clothier
1 Weaver
1 Fish Dissector
1 Fisherdwarf (With pet Calf)
1 Engraver (With a pet puppy)
1 Potash Maker (Could be useful once we require glass)
1 Cook
7 Peasant (Gods, we sure seem to be attracting enough unskilled louts)
