Cryogenics
« on: August 26, 2008, 05:28:23 pm »

This was posted in another thread.  I'm wondering just exactly what is going on here.  The player froze the goblins in ice ... somehow.

I'm never any good at analyzing these videos.

The person lured the goblins into a 1-tile wide passage way by using two drawbridges to open a path to the fortress. Once the majority of the goblins were inside, the player raised both of them, trapping the goblins.

Then, a second switch was activated which started water pumps. The (exposed to the freezing air) passage was flooding with water, which then immediately froze. The water was stored below ground which means it wasn't subject to the above-ground freezing cold.

Goblins are encased in ice. End of video.

And I wonder hat happens if the ice melts. Will their dead bodies be as fresh as in the day they died?
Or maybe they even survived in their icy graves and will be alive again as soon as the ice melts ;D

Creatures who are frozen die instantly - nothing can survive despite any temperature related tags they may have (unless, of course, they are warm enough to stop the water from freezing in the first place). The bodies proceed to rot normally, though they don't cause any miasma.

Digging out the ice wall will reveal the creature's items and possibly bones or rotted corpse depending on how long you took to dig it out.

Wow, that's not a bad weapon. You get uberpoints for figuring out a way to make water more deadly.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

That's not cryogenics! With cryogenics you have to be dead before you get frozen, not because of it.
Seriously though, only "dead" people have been cryogenically frozen. Thus you can use their life insurance to pay
for it. ;D

I think only the dead have been frozen because we are not anywhere near being able to thaw them safely thus freezing an alive person would be at best negligent homicide :P

Only dead people have been frozen since it's not legal to freeze living people.

*edit*
And that's what you said. I'm sorry, I'm tired.

Although there are people who have an interest to be frozen while still living. But due to laws they arenīt allowed to.

Lots of people are paying to be frozen on the second of their death or as soon as money can make it possible.
