Deities (plural of deity) are in fact, by definition, what you would call gods.

Peaks ARE mountains.
Serving a temple simply makes you worship their deity, causing the "talk to deity" option to appear.

 Not yet. Toady hasn't added that yet. Although I'm sure there is a bloat involving talking to a diety.

 Also, peaks are the ^ symbol. The triangles with empty insides are small foothills, and the filled triangles are high mountains.

Deity: Not yet.  Peaks are the highest mountains of the range, yes.  You can't climb at all in the literal sense anyway.  I'm not sure what you mean by "it will only let me climb them not the smaller ones" because..  it doesn't restrict you at all.  If you're talking about legends mode, of course it only lists peaks, the smaller ones aren't as tall, as you said.
Please add a little bit of grammar besides periods to your posts.  It makes things 100% more legible.  We can't help you if we can't understand you, you know?

it won't let me climb anything but peaks and volcanoes. is there any special button you have to push while climbing mountains?

When you say it won't let you climb anything but 'peaks and volcanoes', do you mean it's not giving you the little box that says you've reached the peak?  If so, that's intentional, only mountain peaks (represented by the '^' symbol) are tall enough to merit an award box.  Other mountains, like Duke said, are just foothills and 'normal' mountains.

No what I mean is I am unable to climb foothills and "normal" mountains. once I climbed a foothill. but it wouldn't let me climb any others...

you can't climb mountins from the world map last time i checked, have to enter the area and walk there manually.

Peaks and Dieties eh? Maybe you should be able to talk to the gods from the top of mountians where they can hear your calls for more cats and mules to Slaughter.

This thread inspired me to attempt climbing one of the peaks, sadly my human climber was assaulted by batmen near a chasm and lost both his eyes, two fingers and an ear.. He's still alive and struggling though.
