[40c] No human caravan, just a diplomat?

On the other side of my river (which forms a U-bend and part of the land is blocked off from the 'mainland') I just had a human diplomat appear.. but no caravan at all, not even mules (there is an underground path they could have taken). Is it normal for a diplomat to appear to make a new trade treaty but no caravan to come with him?

The human diplomat is different from a merchant prince.

The human diplomat only arrives to say hello to your count/baron/whatever and to tell him how beautiful the foprtress is, afterwards he disappears again ;)
You also only get the diplomat aftr your foirtress has become a barony.
And yes, he normally comes some time before the normal trading caravan.

The merchant prince however (who makes the trade treaties) usually arrives together with the caravan.
