I just struck my first raw adamantine

I already know about the little greeters. I'm scared and my graves are going to have to be relocated.

Royal is easy if you have artifact furniture. The problem is that everything has to be royal, so I hope you have legendary engravers :-\

Just be really really careful, and you probably will have no problems.

Oddly enough, I just struck my first adamantine in the 3D versions. (I've dealt with the 2D version of the HFS.)

...in the early part of the first winter of a fort...
...while looking for a cave river...
...located ABOVE the cave river's elevation as far as I know...
I haven't started mining it yet. I'm still looking for the cave river... heck, I still only have 7 dorfs! My highest level in any smithing is Novice (took Novice in Armor/Weaponsmith for each dwarf at embark to maximize the potential for getting a moody dwarf who turns into a legendary in one of those categories). I haven't even built a smelter, much less a forge... I was waiting on some migrants to quickly give crossbows to and deal with the pesky fire imps infesting my volcano.

Also, you can use the dug-up adamantine veins for some nice smooth adamantine floors. Makes a good start towards a royal room, yes?

Or maybe those admantite armor for your dwarves to fight in. Best to relocate quickly those graves, it's going to be a hard fight. Make sure you have a way to dump magma or water on the enemies.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

Is there some trick to finding it? I know it used to be found with regional prospector; but I dont see an option for it in the new Finder. Am I supposed to just dig randomly and get lucky?

what happens when you go explore the HFS in Adventurer mode?
Logged
Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Chance FINDER to ALWAYS in the init file and you'll be able to see them on the embark map. Gives you a rough idea where to dig

adamantine = other features (or whatever it's called)

Also, a regional prospector feature has basically been built into the game now.  You can activate it from the init file.

Crap, you guys spoiled it and made me look it up on the wiki. I closed it after realizing that I was reading too much when I saw the screenshot message.
