I'm consolidating a couple of the items listed that seemed to be saying more or less the same thing.  Also remember, you get THREE and ONLY THREE VOTES.  Those who voted for more, I grabbed your topmost three.

I'm also voting for fixing the morale system.  In more detail, it seems that there should be two scales of emotional states.  I suggest Contement/Discontentment, Happiness/Saddness.  For contentment, you'd have thoughts for room quality and luxury (or lack thereof), and for happiness you'd have more serious things, like deaths/births, masterpeice loss/creation, etc.

Contentment level would determine the reaction to being happy or sad.  A discontent mourner might commit suicide, or in extreme cases commit murder.  A content mourner would just sulk for a while.  A happy but discontent dwarf might be interested in revolutionary actions, like tantrums and sabatoge.  A happy and content dwarf would get a bonus to productivity.

Thoughts should also decay at a variable rate, not just be there for a while and vanish suddenly one day.  Some thoughts should be MASSIVELY severe at the start, and then decay just as rapidly, but linger at a low level for a while (like death).  Some thoughts could actually grow over time until fixed (such as discontentment over room quality).  Some thoughts should just decline at a linear rate (such as appreciating good craftsdwarfship).

My second vote will go to Fixing Farming.  There's a thread devoted to this.  I prefer the more realistic options of requiring a lot more farmland to feed your dwarves, which might make trading for food a better option and would also make sieges scarier (if you can't get outside, you won't be eating long...) but I'd like anything to make food a CHALLENGE.

I'll reserve my third vote for now...

1. Job Priorities : I know it's tough

2. Job Priorities Tabbed Filters for all long selection screens That's the stocks screen, the Units Screen (Dead, Dwarf, Tame, Hostile, Friendly), Animals (Butcher/Pets) Screen, Buildings Screen (Who uses this as it stands?  Imagine being able to cycle through just doors or just workshops)

3. Stockpile Priority (With the understanding that a higher priority stockpile can take goods from a lower priority one).

Also, a few extra comments:

Farming isn't broken, hence it can't be fixed.  I agree it would be a good thing if it saw some improvements, but fixed is a bit negative.  Can't you use 'improvements'?  Same with morale, and anything else.  You fix bugs, you improve underdeveloped game mechanics.  /soapbox

Fieari, can you put links to the appropriate discussion threads at the top?

I'm relatively new to Dwarf Fortress (been playing for the last month) - so I'm not going to go out on a limb and come up with new suggestions. However I will support the following wholeheartedly:

* Improved Resource Management
* Job Priorities
* Make all professions at least minimally useful

* Improved Resource Management
* Sort skills by ability
* Make all professions at least minimally useful

If we can only pick stuff from the original list, I want "Material selection for materials used in workshops" in place of my second vote.

My choices:

Fixing Farming (we'll keep writing that until you rename it)
Remember Trade Agreements (edit: exponent reminded me of this: see my thread here.)
Bring Back Guildmasters to fill requested "special abilities"

By special abilities I mean prospecting, standing orders for minimum levels, moving tombs, zooming to the dead, etc. Every new noble has requirements, but each gives you a useful macro-management ability. This would almost break the perpetual suggestion rule, but does have a finite limit (# of profession categories).

----

About linking to relevant threads: Fieari has willing taken on a huge duty for us in running this thread. Asking to have all relevant threads linked adds a subjective evaluation and significant research to an already time consuming activity.

If you really want such a link, do what I did for Underground Diversity. Make a clearly labeled thread, research and link all relative threads (I went back over a month and a half), update it as new info comes in (in thread or across the boards; even though I won't bump it, the UD thread has had updates as recently as yesterday). Once the thread has been established as "the place for discussion", then approach Fieari to link it.

If my suggestion for Guildmasters has any support I will be doing just that. Including a poll for which GM you want first.

*Remember trade agreements, allowing the player to modify last year's agreement, rather than starting from scratch each time.

*Full graphics support for all different tile types, not just creatures

*Improved job/profession management; I'm not familiar with the details of Dwarf Foreman, but I suspect that the request to integrate that utility into DF is more or less the same thing I'm looking for here.  I mainly want to see all my my dwarves' enabled/disabled jobs all at once, and change them around.  A little bit of tabbing/scrolling would be acceptable.  But the current process of going through the units screen is far too tedious.

And this isn't going to be one of my top three, but if it is for someone else, this might help jump-start their memory, if they having a hard time coming up with their three:  Reworking the skills system, such that a dwarf has skills in three separate categories:  process, material, and output.  Examples:  An armorsmith that is good at making iron armor is going to be better at making an iron chain than a farmer who has no experience with iron, metal working, or making chains in general.  The gem setter who is good at decorating finished goods with gems won't be entirely inept when decorating finish goods by sewing silk images onto them.  Et cetera.

1) Make clothes rot, and make them rot more quickly outside. (tired of everlasting narrow silk socks)

2) Designate safe area for civilians to congregate when in danger.

3) Stop dwarves from lemming-dodging into magma/water/chasm.

If a suggestion has a specific post or thread that provides greater detail, I may link that (if provided).

I've changed all "Fix"es to "Improve"s.

If anyone has any specific suggestions for how to phrase suggestions, or if suggestions need to be combined, let me know.

I'm casting my 3rd vote for full graphics support.

Pack animal or convayer belts or elevators. Some way of moving large amouts of materials at once. One dwarve carrying 1 item at a time is way to slow.

Maybe title that "Improved Hauling". It would also include things like sacks or baskets for moving large numbers of small things, like seeds and socks.

Now that there is a decent list of things to vote for, my additional 2 votes go to improving farming and centre on announcement.
