I'd love to see a variation of this:
Mesoamerican_ballgame

Build an arena.. teams from other cities/races would come and compete with your home team..

Losers gets sacrificed in a way that the winning team wishes.. Winners gets trophies made from the losing team

I saw we need boulder golf haha. Its golf but the dwarves have to throw a boulder from place to place. To win you need to be the fastest to finish with the least throws, so maybe a ration of time per throw. Anyways we make buildings like greens for the hole just 1x1 and the dwarf has to get the boulder there, he cant run with it. Also you make knock out your opponent by throwing the boulder at him!
For the boulder I just mean a rock thats been rounded by the mason or a hunk of metal melted into a ball by a smith, all the balls must weight the same. The nobles of course would need their ball to be made of their favorite material. For this sport strong and agile would be the attribute you need, maybe tough if you get the ball thrown at you. Remember these balls should be like 800 in weight. They can be engraved with gems and pictures of dwarfs being eaten by carp.

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Need a game for prisoners.

Like the old Meso-American games, where the loser is executed. Public entertainment for execution.

Anyone remember the DOS/Atari/Amiga game M.U.D.S. - Mean Ugly Dirty Sport?
Simple, violent and easily set up. A very dwarfish game.

To be brutally honest, no one would voluntarily play a game where the losers die (permenently).

You're right, dead dwarves wouldn't be much fun (though sometimes their deaths are hilarious).
I was merely explaining the rules of the original game. Knocking the enemy team unconscious would certainly suffice as secondary goal in DF.

Too bad the main way to catch kobolds is lopping off limbs when they're standing over cage traps.  Add that to the fact that goblins are larger, there are more of them, and they can be captured whole, it'll be quite a beatdown.

What is Tacticus?

It is a board game, I think it's from the Discworld, i'm not sure. Either way, BOTG is based on it.

I remember hearing that it's originally a game played by Toady and ThreeToe with the intention to come up with ideas that should be included in DF. Also Google finds these forums first with "TACTICUS game". If it was from Discworld I think it would be quite more well known.

Basically it's like Calvinball, but only happens on paper (or computer screen). So, it's a game where rules can be changed at any moment by anyone.

Do a search on TACTICUS and you'll find some games that have been played here. Most of them following the Pantshelm ruleset, if I recall correctly.

Makes me wonder why the games died. It's quite sad really. Playing or reading it was so much fun. I guess the Roll to Dodge games (being so similar) are substituting for them currently.
