Narcoleptic titan "assaults" my fortress
« on: August 23, 2008, 09:33:38 am »

So I was "attacked" by a titan yesterday, but all he did was lay at the edge of the map, unconscious.  He had some gray (couldn't tell which shade) injuries to his left knee, lower leg, ankle, and toes.  I waited a month or so for him to wake up, then sent out my marksdwarves to pincushion him.

What happened?

at a guess, you have a cliff near there? he could have spawned on a ledge, jumped down, and hurt himself. once he fell, he may of also had a pathfinding problem- if the door-breakers are far enough away when you lock the doors, they will stop and mill about for a while.

I think the more likely explanation is that this is an extension of the 'Guard's unconsciousness messages spam' problem, wherein the guards, having had a limb chopped off during worldgen, cannot wake up because every time they do the pain of a missing limb puts them back to sleep. This titan got his lower leg chopped off at the knee, and is in so much pain that he can't wake up to do anything.

Basically, phantom pains to such an extent he falls unconscious.

I just experienced the same thing today. It was pretty disappointing since it was the very first megabeast event I've ever encountered.

My titan showed up with gray body parts for most of its body. My soldiers dispatched it in seconds. I backed up the game and use the Legends mode to learn more about my first megabeast kill. This titan had gone through many fights before rampaging at my site. I wonder if it had sustained its injuries in previous fights.

Does anyone know if a megabeast can show up injured?

If you mean spewing blood I don't think so but you can have beasts with limbs or organ damaged/cut off.

I have a fortress under seige from a goblin band led by a human missing one shoulder/arm/hand.  The human keeps passing out and the band has not progressed very far onto the map.  I finally had everyone go back to work and I am just keeping an eye on the "seigers".  It looks like they will make it to the fortress in about 20 years or so.   :D

Yes, if a megabeast has lost a body part in a battle, then it will be missing when he shows up later.
You could even take off a megabeast's arm in adventure mode and have him invade you in df mode later with a missing arm.

Same thing happened to me yesterday.

A dragon (Silverflame the tax flicker) showed up, with grey eyes, flew across the map, then lay down unconscious near to my fortress.

Given that my fortress is an all-wood above-ground fort, I didn't want to risk him actually attacking it and burning it down, so I immediately mobalized my 3-dwarf elite wrestler squad, my 3-dwarf marksdwarf squad, and my 25-dwarf unarmed citizen militia, and zerged him.

He woke up, breathed fire once (without injuring anyone), then got beaten to a pulp by my dwarves, none of whom got killed (although one got an arm torn off).  It was my unemployed dyer that made the killing blow.

There was something quite amusing about the sight - once they were deactivated - of my mob of civilians returning to base with the corpse of the dragon carried aloft.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Well at least no deaths... the injured person may sleep for the rest of his life but no deaths.

A soapmaker's arm?  Yes.
