Giant Cave Spider Modding
« on: August 22, 2008, 06:28:18 pm »

Did a bit of research on teh wiki, but I'm looking for some second opinions about how I did this. I want giant cave spiders to come around like other types of monsters in specific biomes, so that I can have better access to giant cave spider silk bla bla bla so I modded them like this:
Code: [Select]
[CREATURE:SPIDER_CAVE_GIANT]
[NAME:giant cave spider:giant cave spiders:giant cave spider]
[TILE:'S'][COLOR:7:0:0]
[MODVALUE:10]
[LARGE_ROAMING][FREQUENCY:50][DIFFICULTY:3]
[EXTRACT:giant cave spider venom:7:0:0]
[EXTRACT_VALUE:100]
[EXTRACT_PARALYZE][NATURAL][PET_EXOTIC]
[EXTRACT_ANTIDOTE:giant cave spider antivenin:7:0:0:100]
[WEBBER][THICKWEB][WEBIMMUNE][AMBUSHPREDATOR][PARALYZEIMMUNE]
[LARGE_ROAMING]
[GENPOWER:4]
[BLOODTYPE:W][CHITIN]
[PETVALUE:2500]
[GRASSTRAMPLE:10]
[CARNIVORE]
[NOPAIN][EXTRAVISION][NOSTUN][NOEMOTION][NOSKULL][NOBONES]
[BUILDINGDESTROYER:1]
[NOFEAR]
[PREFSTRING:mystery]
[BODY:SPIDER:2EYES:HEART:GUTS:BRAIN:MOUTH]
[SIZE:10]
[MAXAGE:20:30]
[ATTACK:MAIN:BYTYPE:MOUTH:bite:bites:0:0:GORE][ATTACKFLAG_CANLATCH][SPECIALATTACK_INJECT_EXTRACT:0:0]
[FAT:1]
[NO_SLEEP]
[ALL_ACTIVE]
[POPULATION_NUMBER:1000:10000]
[BIOME:ANY_TEMPERATE_FOREST]
[BIOME:MOUNTAIN]
[HOMEOTHERM:10040]
[STANDARD_FLESH]
will that work?

They're also relatively harmless (Damage 0:0). If it worked the worst they could do is bother the dwarves, tackle and gum them for a while.

Well they can still break your bones and toss you around like ragdolls.

Not with an attack of 0:0, I think.

I would think so since none of the extract is injected... because they wont attack.. and also because its set to 0:0. If you want them to be parazlyzed without being bitten.. I remember a vermin tag where if they are on the space for an amount of time they will be paralyzed or something. Dont remember completely

Consitering that they are size 10 they probably have an effective damage power of a goblin with a scorge whip (about 4:4). A major improvement.  Their poison should still work assuming the damage can get past the armor.

My estimate puts it at a little stronger than a single goblin lasher.  Any trained military dwarf should make mincemeat of it, assuming of course the spider doesn't get a lucky hit and the dwarf gets out of the web fast enough.

I believe that that attack does not take into account for grapling/wrestling hence still having the ability to rip limbs off by throwing your body into the air.. correct me if I'm wrong of course.

Plus the attack of 0:0 does not take into affect size. It really freaked me out when the taunt attack that was set to burn damage as a joke for elder dragons suddenly incinerated the lower body of one of my meat shields helping swordsman.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Undo the damage and poison removal, and try to run a fort in a forest.  I wonder if it would be possible..

I did something like that the other night (great minds think alike!), but I added a new creature entry instead, the giant wood spider.  Note that they're EVIL, TRAINABLE, and PET.  For a goblin civ, the war giant wood spider can't be beaten!  XD  Plus, your gws webs, and chitin when butchered!

Eh, not yet.  I've been playing *as* the goblins.  Vicious little bastards, but they can't farm.  I could enable that, but why change so much?  Besides, I just added the Arachnid civ from the Wiki's Modding Guide.  Now trying to actually make them spread out in World Gen.

BTW, I tried making the Giant Wood Spider a pack animal, but evey time goblin traders came in with them, they dropped the stuff everywhere!  Granted, free stuff is cool, but it's also a little too cheap for me.  Might it be that I gave them a load capacity of 4000, instead of the mule's 2000?
