The reinstall has fixed everything.  Much better, the problems were most probably my fault.  The blowouts now work properly and look much better.  Also had some fun with a jeep- turned on the lights, crashed into a tree (knocking off the bumper), parked it- at which point a Flesh knocked it over, rolling it (I think that took the door off).  When I got back in, I got it on the road and somehow managed to flip and roll it at high speed, at which point I bailed out while it was still airbourne, sustaining minimal damage.  Lots of fun

Just watch out for Whirligigs and Vortices, they'll hurl you off the map if you hit them going too fast in a car.
