Im not posting this in the bug forum yet because its just a suspicion. But it seems when i run DF my computer acts a bit wierd.

For example if i go into my music folder and hover the mouse over one of the audio files it shows a box with the file size, music details and such. However with DF on, the box shows the details of the previous file that i hovered over. Not only that but the detail box is sized for the new file.

If the details are too big for the box, they get cut off, and if the details are too small, the extra space is blacked out.

Also, it seems that the computer also makes more "grindier" noises when df is running. it might just be me being paranoid but this is an aging computer and its had a hard life.

Anyone else notice strange things that are not outright bugs?

Sounds to me like your install is just going south. Being that DF runs openGL and being able to run 3D acceleration while dealing with other things was never originally intended for any os - that it can do it at all is due to varying levels of hack to development in each video card's driver - it sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

The 'grinding' noises are just hard drive activity. of course it is doing that more, as DF is taking up part of the ram other apps would normally be free to use for themselves, and the hard drive is being used more as a result.

Time to do what is called a 'nuke and pave', that is, wipe the hard drive clean (thus erasing EVERYTHING, so back files you wanna keep onto CDRs and such) and then install everything all clean.

what you're experiencing is quite simply that DF is raping the hell out of your CPU and leaving only a tiny bit of processing time for other programs, which can cause lag or a bit of unpredictability.

try opening the task manager, going into the processes tab and setting DF to Low.
