Trading woes!
« on: November 01, 2007, 09:32:00 pm »

Trading has suddenly become a terrible chore.  The elves show up.  Okay, so I move a bunch of stuff in to be traded.  I switch windows to do something as usual as my way of dealing with the slow framerate.  When I come back, they're gone!  Then this happened with the humans too.  I did my best to try and trade with the humans, but they kept saying they were still setting up.  When I looked again they were gone!  This normally wouldn't be such a big deal ( I didn't seem to have a problem in the older version) except that the trade depot also requires someone present to trade, which takes even more time!  Oh, and the human caravan has to travel a fairly large amount of ground too.

It would be nice if the caravans moved a little faster, they stayed longer, had a pause-worthy event, or some combination of the above.

Oh, when the traders arrive the game pauses, but it's like an hour or more of real time before they're ready to exchange goods!

If by an hour you mean 5/10 mins for dwarves and elves and maybe 20 mins for humans with no road then yes.

Sounds to me like your need to tweak it to make it run better, unless you have already. Then you will be able to play instead of getting bored, looking at something else and missing them.

Well, to clarify by old version I mean pre-3d.  As for the trading itself, someone in the chat recommended I build a road all of the way so it takes less time for the caravan to show up.  So I'll try that.  Even still, it's a fairly longer trip to the trade depot, and not necessarily a straight one when navigating hills!  So compared to the pre-3d version traders need a lot more time.  Or to move a lot faster!  Or to take time to set up.

Right now, I can't trade with the humans, because they take too long to pull their wagons to my depot.
They leave before they have all arrived, and my goods rot in my depot.  :(

And I can't even build a road to their entry point, since it seems to change every year.
