Help with a mandate...?
« on: August 21, 2008, 04:38:05 am »

OK, so my Count wants me to produce 2 Bismuth Items.

However, as far as I can tell, almost no items can be made from Bismuth!   Do you think simply smelting a Bismuth Bronze bar would do the trick?   (Except I don't have any Bismuthinite...   >:()

Put a special lever in his room hooked up to a magical drawbridge. Convince him that pulling this lever will reveal the bismuth riches hidden beyond.

 ;D

That's more than a possibility.

Although, instead of a magical drawbridge mine's hooked up to the Tower of Ascension.  That way I get to recycle any fancy clothing.

When I get any nobles I plan to have an emergency "Accident" system.

Each noble's room would be connected to a weapon trap or two set to fire on the noble should he pull the lever. First I plan to get him stuck in his giant room by locking the door then making him pull the lever and make it go off.

That or make him get locked in a cage and either starve or be sold to the Elves.

Smelting Bismuth Bronze won´t fullfill the noble´s demand as well as making a lousy bunch Bismuth Bronce Crafts.Yes,youre stuck smelting Bismuthinite into bars to please him.
Keeping Bismuthinite lying around in your stocks should be no problem as long as you have Iron to equip your army.In the case your Map doesn´t feature any Bismuthinite you can request/import it from your Mountainhome´s every year, since they bring along ~4-6 raw Bismuthinite which should keep your Noble and Furnace Operator´s happy for a year till the next Caravan.

Considering that there´re worse Noble´s out there, aka the kind that demands Crystal glass/Gold/Platinum Items a Bismuth Noble aint that bad.On the other hand, the value of furnace Operators is doubtable, becouse they are not that rare in immigrant-waves/activiating the skill on a bunch of peons and a few more smelters will suffice to support a single forge.

I have a level specially for nobles and I'm planning to siphon some water just above each noble's bed or dining room, blocked only by a single floodgate controlled by a lever each from the sherriff's office. That'll keep them in check!

"Bismuth" is a special code word that means "Lock me in my room until I starve to death."

My fort's first duchess constantly requested bismuth items. Her husband frequently asked for bismuth bronze. The latter means, "Lock me in my room until I starve to death...bronze."

Hmm. I still prefer to just lock nobles in their rooms and ignore the mandates and demands.

They eventually come to their senses and stop demanding if you know what I mean.

I do.

I've a question though: Do nobles generate genuinely impossible mandates?

Like Dragonbone in a world with no dragons left, or Adamantine on a map that has none?

Reasonable requests are met.  Harder mandates get it up the dwarfdate.

Talking of which, recently my talented weaponsmith/armourer and dabblng blacksmith had a fey mood.  "Woohoo!" I thought to myself, doing a happy dance.  Some five minutes later, I start wondering why I haven't been notified that he'd taken over a forge so I go looking...  only to find him locked in chains for failing to make Bismuth items.   >:(

The chains were deconstructed and the Count has been sent to floss the teeth of the local Hydra from the inside.

Yes.  I've had 'em ask for glass items on a map with no sand.  Adamantine items on a map with no HFS (and later with no nobles!  ;D)
