[40a] Liason fell in love with my leader.

He never left. His caravan is long gone.

The fortress in question has been abandoned due to unrelated reasons but I fear this may come back again.

I had this in the last version too.

How long did he stay before you abandoned the fortress?

I also had liaisons stay for almost a year, obviously they liked my legendary dining hall so much :D
But normally they would finally begin negotiations, even if it were just one season before the next caravan from their home civilization is due.

In my games especially humans are notorious for this, which is wwhy I see them as some kind of Marco Polo type merchants, who not only want to negotiate trades, but also want to find out more about other cultures ;)

Whats probally happening is your mayor is doing other jobs which take precedence over the "Conduct Meeting" job. When I want my mayor to do a meeting I temporaily take of his jobs.

I've noticed liasons in the recent releases stick around much longer than they ever used to. I've consistently had the human liason stick around for up to a year after his caravan left. Every now and then I'll see him wandering past the meeting halls or making his way through the fort. He'll EVENTUALLY get his meeting and leave, only to return with the next caravan and spend another year at my mountain home. x)

The managing jobs should just be given a higher priority, as far as I see this that'd be

Trade in the depot
Conduct meeting
Manage Work orders
Update stockpile records
Fish ;)
Do any other enabled labor.

Cause now it's just ridiculous.

We should also be able to change priorities our selves.

I believe making a priority-setting system is a matter of coding, and changing the built-in priorities is just a matter of replacing a few numbers, goddamit.

We need to be able to set priorities PER DWARF. Not per EVERYONE.

We need to be able to set priorities PER DWARF. Not per EVERYONE.

I think both would be very useful, actually.

Hello!

Aneehway... The meeting did finish. Everything was fine. But the liaison wouldn't eave!

I think we shouldn't lose focus on the bug reported here.

This is definitely behaviour I haven't seen before.

My thoughts would be first to check the health status of the liaison for any abnormal state.

I assume that he has unblocked access to at least one map border.

What race and what season are we talking about? Maybe there is some seasonal issue involved.

Have other caravans arrived yet (same civ/different civ/different civ at war with liaison civ?)?

Other than these, I have no ideas what else could be to blame.

Well my new fort didn't get this. The liaison finished the meeting and left with the caravan.

I think it would be rather cool for the liason or some visiting caravan guard to fall in love with a dwarf.  I have never seen it happen, but if it anyone does please post a screen shot of the relationship screen that shows it.  I wouldn't consider the lover part to be a bug, I would consider them hanging around to be a bug.  Unless they became a citizen of the fortress, and there were no penalties for them making that choice.  It would actually be very funny for me to have an elf decide to stick around because she is besotted with one of my crossbowmen.  I would set the elf to only do cleaning, turn that off on everyone else; and finally pretend that the elf is dancing about as a target begging the dwarf to love her.

As general advice, you should always try to keep the broker and fortress leader/mayor positions seperate.  Humans and elves do thier meeting with the broker, but a dwarven caravan will meet with the leader or mayor.  I have had it happen where my broker was meeting with the humans at the same time my mayor met with the dwarf liason.  That was mostly a circumstance of really busy with jobs until mid-autumn.
