How to correctly start adventure mode
« on: August 20, 2008, 10:20:08 am »

Basically I couldn't find the information elsewhere and I am not gonna sieve through tons of adventure posts to find one that contains a guide.

So please, could I have a way to correctly start and play adventure mode?

I am sick and tired of not being able to do anything or even find a quest or even hunt!

On a side note I never seem to find ANY drunks...

I have been a succesful adventurer, I managed to slay all of my quest monsters with only one or two companions.

Anyway the way to actually succeed in adventure is to not do anything stupid, i.e. take on your quest monster alone, not spending too much time to get hungry or thristy in adventuring mode.

Wait, wait, what do you invest your skill points in whenever you first begin anyway?

Yes. I go the human swordsman path.

I'm quite fond of swords. But I still prefer gunning an enemy down. But since it's a bit hard to survive even a lame wolf ambush with a crossbow... Swords are the best choice I had so far.

Proficient swordsman
Competent Shield
Competent Armor
Novice thrower
Novice swimmer
Wrestler

Hmmm, well you seem to invest in swimming. Personally I see that as a waste, the swimming skill can easily be trained, it just takes time to do so, as well as ambusher.

Anyway I don't know what you are doing wrong, wolf are a very easy ambush to survive. Maybe you just don't put enough space between you, and the wolfs. Something I do when there are more than five.

The only reason I invest in novice swimming is because from what I know if I try to train it up in anything but shallow water I would drown.

And I found out that I was holding the head by the upper ARM and not HAND.

But the wrestling article on the wiki says that I can use any to grab the other parts... But no locks or breaks or anything occur. I can only strangle.

And breaking limbs only seems to work on humanoids. Which is odd.

I feel that I could survive a wolf ambush much better by poking out its eyes. But I need an empty hand for that. So drop the shield?

Skip wrestling for wolves and use your sword.  Wrestling just gives them more time to chew on you unless you're already down to the last wolf or wrestling is your highest stat.

And it wouldn't hurt to drop you novice throwing skill as well, throwing trains extremely fast by itself, and the points are more useful in the slower training weapons skills.

I figured... Wrestling is only good for one on one and for making me laugh at their puny selfs?

Now there's only two problems left. I can never find anybody to join me. Not even drunks. EVER!

And sleeping takes BLOODY FOREVER! Like 10 minutes!

 1. Create an adventurer, keeping in mind not to use up all the stat points. Keep around 10-20 uninvested.

 2. Retire in a town near the cave of misery. Go back to step 1 x10

 3. Create your real adventurer, using all of your points.

 4. Recruit them if you can find them.

 5. Assault cave.

 6.???

 7. Either death or glory!

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

You can usually find prisoners to rescue/recruit at goblin towers.
Well, so long as you don't mind the mental image of using little kids as meat shields.

Nah. But that puts me in the problem of killing all those goblins. Something I probably can't do. Nor can I find a goblin tower and I don't even know what it looks like.

Now if you'll excuse me I got puppies and kittens fresh from the bitch and pussy to butcher.

No, in the latest release so far none of the goblins are hostile, they don't even care if you steal prisoners.  I actually have a goblin ranger in my party right now.  The Goblin towers look like purple or gray pi symbols in the edges of mountain ranges.

I still wish I knew why in all my adventures I only found ONE drunk total when the wiki says they are so common you can use them as an armor formation.

And does sleeping actually serve a purpose? Because I want to avoid it. IT TAKES BLOODY FOREVER! Doesn't make any sense.

The drunks were placeholders for the recruitables, that got reintroduced just recently. Though you can still recruit some of the fighters in towns.

(And also, sleeping takes forever. That's what it does. But fast travel takes care of sleepiness, thirst, and hunger. It's the new sleep.)

Now how about giving me the flat out best Human, Elf and Dwarf builds out there?

Yes I am willing to grind ambushing and swimming and throwing.
