Make a Dungeon! (open challenge)
« on: August 20, 2008, 08:28:04 am »

Idee coming from this thread
Make a Dungeon!
To participate:
-find an idee, and present it.
-realise your "Dungeon" in DF
-show, share & recive appreciacion from others
Rules:
-i think the only restriction should be to have a clear idee with fantasy feeling.
-mod if the idee need it, i don't think cheating is needed because it will probably take away the real story of your place
-no time limit is needed
-the original idees are apreciated but if you really want to do the 201st goblin sewer system just do it.
Goals:
-Create a place where you can present your projects, discuss them, exchange idees about, or just wach on others work.
-we don't look here for efficacity, good defense, just nice/nasty Dungeons, castles and Fantasy places with the real feeling.

i think a bit of making it easy if you don't feel like being able to do is no problem ... take off sieges (because for example your dwarfs live far away from goblins ...) make the dwarven tresury dungeon. put back sieges if you feel like finished and then you don't even need to abandon ... and you have your hole story of "Daggerfortune the Market of Clans" why it have been settled and when it become rich the hord of goblin have come to destruct ... so it is now a dungeon ... the thing you need is estetic not gamaplay knowledge (knowledge may even harm, some migth not be able to don't ... put ... that workshop there, just because it is more effective soo ...) i play some times withouth sieges ... if i have other story plans ...

I have been playing since the 2D version. I am just a slow learner or focus to much on other stuff. But yes i will give this my attention and build a fort thats interesting to walk around in not just to build.

oooh, would a labyrinth be okay? I made a huge one in math when I was bored last year... hoping to toss in some monsters, but I can't ever seem to catch them. Or find them at all.

Hi!

(Yes, I am online a lot today because my private computer is busy genning worlds for 40c :) )

This sounds interesting, although I am not yet sure whether I will be able to contribute or not. I am a very slow player and getting something nice created takes some time.

So, if I get you correctly, you are looking for fortresses which are designed not with game aspects in mind but with some aesthetic vision or trying to copy a model, right?

Anyhow, I wanted to make a few suggestions:

First of all, the file depot would be a good place to share the actual saves with the (abandoned) fortresses.

In addition, the map archive is good for sharing some other information.

Actually, I would suggest the following procedure for the greatest fun factor:

People build their fortresses, then abandon them.
They upload the save at the file depot.
They upload the world map at the map archive with points of interest marking the site of the fortress.
They then inform people here on the thread about their fortress, giving hints to its general nature.

This way, the other participants would get the excitement of exploring and uncovering the fortress, rather than getting all the information from an uploaded site map or by continuing an active fortress.

The space man, construct a vault underneath it. I do not know if levers carry over into adventure mode, but if they do, you should make it so that the moat can be drained by a lever. And there is a door leading to the vault under the moat.
