DF Adventure Mode Self Quest
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:26:34 pm »

Quest to visit all 4 corners of the world without fast traveling. . . at all on a -large- sized map.
Restrictions:Not allowed to be elf, cannot bring more than 1 hireling.  NO FAST TRAVEL.
Advantages:Temperature extremes reduced by 5 degrees to make it -possible-

Sut Cusithkara, Human, Male of Mong Nep
Talented Swordsman
Novice Armor User
Novice Wrestler
Novice Ambusher
Proficient Swimmer

27th of Granite, 300.
I begin my quest at the town of Strengthplay near the Steppe of Enchanters.  For the first day, I collected dirt to pay for an extra waterskin and walked north to the nearby river to train for the task ahead.

28th of Granite, 300.
More swimming training.

29th of Granite, 300.
More swimming training.  Running low on food, which is quite concerning.

1st of Slate 300.
Arrived back at Strengthplay, strengthened my throwing skill for the night and lit a fire to keep warm.

2nd of Slate 300.
Ala Pidudes an axeman agrees to join with me.  I walk outside and regret lighting so many fires the night before as smoke fills the inn I was sleeping at.  I payed for a brand new loincloth and left town to the north east with a huge stockpile of food.

3rd of Slate 300.
I wakeup in the middle of the night, a wolf corpse lays nearby.  I am happy I brought Ala Pidudes with me.  I decide to ask her about her family.  She had a younger brother named Cilko Glistenrasps, who died of old age in 260, wait what?!  I cross a river early in the morning, once I've crossed I look for my companion.  Unfortunately she came under attack from wolfs.  I swim back across and look for her.  By the time I get back I'm not needed and two more wolfs lie dead.  So I cross the river again, and the same thing happens, so I rush back, another wolf is dead.  Dawn breaks and we continue to the north east, wary about Mrs. Wolf Killer.

4th of Slate 300.
I wake up next to a river I'd been following, I decide to train my swimming some more.

5th of Slate 300.
Followed the river some more.

6th of Slate 300.
Trained my swimming to legendary levels, then went to bed.

7th of Slate 300.
Had a fight with a cougar, it managed to tear out my left eye and slash my nose as it tackled me to the ground.  With Ala Pidudes help I got it off me, I rushed up and struck it down.  I asked Ala about her family again.  Her youngest daughter died of old age in 270, wait what?!  Later I spotted a herd of Rhesus Macaque, and rush at them with my sword, I killed 3 and the rest got away.  Later in the morning I killed 3 groundhogs and felt smug over my victory.  I cross a river which needed to be crossed, but Ala Pidudes could not.  I left her behind.  I am now a legendary ambusher, swimmer and thrower as I swim down river towards the next town.

Currently traveling East to the next nearest city to get more waterskins.

8th of Slate 300.
The day of Animal Cruelty. I decide to travel south as thats the direction of the closest town.  I'll need many waterskins for my journey.  I found a herd of horses and rushed into them with my sword.  I killed one and he was propelled across the field by my blow, I didnt know I was so strong! The next horse put a nasty bruise on my arm.  Fourteen horses and five Rhesus Macaque lie dead, however the fifth gave me a moment of fright.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The days not even over and I made it into the town of Mukimec.  I walk into the weapon store and eye a Exceptional blade.  I pick it up and eye the owner.  Then make a break for the door.  I steal two waterskins and a nice tunic as well and managed to sneak away.

9th of Slate 300.
Alot of my clothing is being worn down and needs replacing, ill make a list of things to buy from the next town, and if I don't have the momey - there are other ways to aquire things I need.  I better stock up, as this will be the last town I acquire supples from for a while.  I arrive at Artharozmo in the middle of the night.  I sneak into a mans room around 1 am and try to engage him in conversation to see if this town is friendly, he seems mad, so I leave his house.

10th of Slate 300.
The store owners left alot of their supplies in the shop for the night, so I stocked up and left my money outside in the town center and left.  My supplies total up to 6 waterskins and 140 meals of meat, (vegetables are for pussies.)  I reach the northern river before it's even dawn and start swimming up it and onto the northern shore.  I climb a cliff 7 Z levels above the river and enjoy the view.  In the afternoon I ate some meat and attacked a deadly groundhog to wrap up my day.

11th of Slate 300.
A horse was foolish enough to wander up to my camp.  Kept traveling northwards.

12th of Slate 300.
Traveled north all day.

13th of Slate 300.
Reached the next major river.

14th of Slate 300.
Even though I'm traveling North to the equator, it seems the nights are getting colder.  Entire Rivers are freezing over during the night.  It's time to start camp fires to keep warm during the nights.  My first campfire was very smokey and quickly took hold despite the freezing temperature.  The flames and smoke became so intense I was driven back and disturbed a nest of rats.  Considering my attempt a failure I fell asleep for the night nearby.  When I wakeup my fire has spread and I consider against lighting anymore trees on fire as the next civilization I'm going to be walking into is Elven.  As I continue north I reach uncharted land and I begin to scrape a path blindly to the north.

15th of Slate 300.
I have left the Hills of Honoring far behind me and The Remarkable Desert - which I find to be quite undeserving of it's name - is nearly at its end.  The Lean Steppes welcomes me, and the elves will see what I'm made of if they don't give me a change of clothes.  Later in the evening I spot a herd of gazelle, I sneak up on the first and take its leg out from under it, it falls unconceous to the ground.  Leaving it for later I move to another and cleave a stray in half as I pass.  Beheading the 3rd I move on the main herd.  I break ones leg and slam into another, its two halves sail over the terrified herd as I continue my slaughter of defenseless vegetarian animals.  With two swipes I take out the legs of another pair and charge after a loner fleeing the carnage.  I kill one running and return to count the bodies, one had gotten away.  I have failed.

16th of Slate 300.
I reach the Elven Retreat of Efilieletha at dusk.  I meet an Elf Swordsman named Cata Thebenaware who tells me that they're bored living there.  So naturally I invite him to follow me in my quest!  I sleep in the safety of this elven sanctuary.  If only they knew how many animals I've senselessly killed in the past 19 days, (88).

17th of Slate 300.
I took on an Elephant today, Cata Thebenaware didn't seem to mind.  The elephant managed to bruise my legs before I took it down.

18th of Slate 300.
It was very dark last night I could barely see Cata behind me, but I traveled despite the danger.  The darkness didn't slow my companion, the river did.  Another companion is left behind, what use this elf was I have no idea as he never helped me when the elephant was beating on my legs.  I have reached a small lake, this being the first large body of water I've ever seen I take a swim kill some fish and continue on.

19th of Slate 300.
Traveled north all day, when I woke up in the night I found my path was blocked by another large body of water.  Being wary of swimming in the cold of night I made it to the other shore.

20th of Slate 300.
Finally something to kill in this unbearably boring forest.  North I march onward.

21st of Slate 300.
I cut northeast in preparation for going around a mountain rather than over it.  Swimming up river north as it's faster than walking and there doesn't seem to be much risk of waters freezing up in this hot jungle.  Later I spotted a whole herd of Elephants!  A challenge at last!  However they prove to be disappointing as all they managed to do was bruise my foot.  Still, it's better to be safe on this journey and I should stop wishing for dangerous foes.

22nd of Slate 300.
A Giant Leopard!  Being wary I threw a rock at it first which knocked it unconceous.  The I finished it off with my sword.  Throughout the day I crossed alot of foul rivers, unfit to drink from I tapped into my reserve waterskins for the first time. . . ever.  My meat supply is still good at 120 pieces.  The forest is becoming sparse and giving way to hilly mountainous terrain.

23rd of Slate 300.
My clothing is frayed at the edges and my loincloth is ragged and falling apart.  I should of put more effort into getting a change of clothes from the elves when I had the chance, theres no point in turning back now though.  I just hope I don't embarrass myself with my genitals hanging out at the next town I reach.  This accursed swamp I've stumbled into smells.

24th of Slate 300.
Reached an elven "town" and I've grown a  serious hatred for elves, they have no buildings to rest my aching muscles within and they're not willing to part with any clothes.  These tree crazed eco daft nuts can rot, I didn't so much as bother as learn the "cities" name.  However, I took an eager elf civilian with me who wanted to see the world.  Murder and theft of an elf's clothing isn't beyond my morals.

25th of Slate 300.
Night was falling yesterday, and so I sneaked up behind my unsuspecting companion and knocked him over, raising my sword, ready to commit murder. And this Elf wood crafter gets snitty telling me I'M going to die?!  We'll that just took the cake with my Elf Racism.  I hacked off his limbs and watched him bleed to death in front of me.  If elfs weren't inconvenient enough already their clothing doesn't even fit me.  Filthy elves.  I reached the next elven village, but to my horror they've learned of that damn elfs death.  The swordman drew his sword and walked straight for me, so I ran started running, straight ahead I see an elf pulling back the bow, too late I realized and got struck in the lower body.  I had to fight off the elfs on my back as I crawled away for my life.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm avoiding all elven towns from now on, they're useless and now extremely hostile.

26th of Slate 300.
The going is slow as I'm forced to crawl until the leg heals itself, chasing animals is alot harder than it used to be.  Kept traveling west to my first objective.

27th of Slate 300.
Leg still hasn't healed, and I don't think it will for a while.  Keeping a safe distance from the next elf village.

28th of Slate 300.
I can only move at a 3rd of my old travel pace with my leg mangled as it is.  Traveling is slow and I'm avoiding poaching the elephants until I'm back to my old self.

1st of Felsite 300.
Will this leg ever heal?  Kept crawling East.

2nd of Felsite 300.
Crawled to the East all day.

3rd of Felsite 300.
Dragging my already thread bare clothing along the ground is not helping my garment situation in the slightest.  Saw a unicorn today, tried throwing some rocks at it, none of them hit so I left it alone and went to bed.

4th of Felsite 300.
Crawled East more.  Killed some groundhogs, got pissed off that the unicorn dared show its face again so I crawled at it brandishing my sword.  Damn 4 legged carrot faced beast got me one in my good leg.  He didn't live very long after he managed to do that.

5th of Felsite 300.
God damn leg still hasn't healed from that arrow, on my return journey im burning that elven forest retreat to the ground.

6th of Felsite 300.
Crawled to the East all day, crossed a river.  I disturbed a nest of bats in the middle of the night, disgusting creatures.  Some lovely pixies were dancing along the night lit trail afterwards to make up for it.

7th of Felsite 300.
A lion!  Without thinking I revealed myself and started throwing rocks at it.  The lion immediately turned and started licking its lips.  I got scared shitless when the first two rocks missed, with only 1 rock left I nailed the damn lion right in the head; with the lion unconceous I delivered a 1 hit kill with my sword and decided that was enough excitement for one day.

8th of Felsite 300.
I cut to the North East and lord and behond I've reached the north edge of the world.  It seems like a much shorter Journey to my first objective.  All my clothing is more than just a -little- damaged, my loincloth is heavily damaged my leg still isn't healed and this forest is still thicker than Grandmamma's porridge.

9th of Felsite 300.
THIS ^&$@Ing LEG!  Won't heal!  I'm to scale a mountain with 1 leg to reach my first objective.  I may attempt to rest for an entire week until my leg is fit again to put my weight on.  I need to consider packing enough water to reach my objective as well, water may have been abundant with the paths I've taken, but the mountain will not be generous with it.  I'll need to keep track of my course to make sure I don't stumble into that goblin fortress as well.

It might be inconvenient, but retire in a town and reactivate, simulating a healing process. That way, you'll get back in shape.

I'm roleplaying my characters rage, not my own.  I'm enjoying myself.  Furthermore the closest friendly settlement is a LOOOONG ways away.  The only nearby civilizations are Goblin and Elf and I've already angered the elf.

Bruises seem to heal fine, however this is the first mangling I've had.  I guess we'll see wont we.

10th of Felsite 300.
I've reached the waters source, I'll camp here for today and the next day to see if my leg heals and to keep my water stock topped off.

11th of Felsite 300.
I rest all day, but impatient catches hold and I begin my ascent late in the evening with 18 water and 90 food.

12th of Felsite 300.
I start reaching chasms and skirt around them far to the north, I begin drinking to quench my thirst with no source of water in sight.

13th of Felsite 300.
Up up and up I go, the bland landscape bores me.  I've passed my 2nd chasm, I'm about half way up the mountain and I've drank 4 of my 18 waters.  I'll be cutting it close on my water supply.

14th of Felsite 300.
I've passed a 3rd chasm, all these chasms are easily passed by hugging the northern wall of the map, I'm nearly at the peak and I've drank 8 of my 18 waters.  I'm confident that if I follow the same path up as I did down I will make it.

15th of Felsite 300.
Success!!  Late into the night I reach the upper right corner of the world!  Now to begin my descent. 85 food and 9 water remains.

16th of Felsite 300.
I tried to fall asleep last night but I was awoken by a carnivorous mountain goat?!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How I managed to sleep through a mountain goat kicking me in the breast plate is beyond my comprehension.

17th of Felsite 300.
Any idea of this mountain being devoid of life has now been squashed.  I go over the crest of a hill to have a Troglodyte jump me.  By reflex I block his blow and take off his arm, but that wasn't the end of it.  Down below on the other side of a chasm stood 7 other Troglodyte 7 Ratmen and 5 Antmen.  Hiding is impossible on this baron mountain, running with my mangled leg: out of the question, delay: suicidal with my water shortage.  I took them on despite being drowsy from my night-time travel.  Whenever I defeated one wave another would come.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They failed to even touch me.  Only 6 water remains and theres still half way to go, I need off this mountain NOW.

18th of Felsite 300.
I hear Frogmen and a Giant Olm in the distance.  I have no idea how strong these creatures are or where they are, thankfully my cover hasn't been blown.  Just keep sneaking down the hill and I'll be fine.  A batman wanders by in the dark mere feet from my location without noticing me.  I reach the 2nd of 3 chasms on the descent and spot another ratman, not wanting to blow my cover I let it wander by as well.  The hike up the mountain was so uneventful the trek down is more than making up for it.  As I slept during the day in a depression in the ground to hide my location, however, a giant mole dog snuck up on me in my sleep, having his teeth in my hip brought me awake and enraged.  The commotion breaks my stealth again and things in the distance move in on me.  I move below the next rise of the hill and into the darkness away from whatever foul creatures want to disturb my sleep again.  When I tried to sleep again a ratman had found me hiding in the next ditch I found.  This mountain is overrun with creatures that like human flesh!  I can barely see 10 feet in the dark and I stumble into them left and right!  As day breaks, I start scaling down a very steep slope, I reach another hole in the ground and try to sleep for a 3rd time.  This time, I get a full nights sleep undisturbed and I no longer hear strange noises in the night.

19th of Felsite 300.
I was walking down the the lower hills off the mountain, confident I was out of danger when a swallowman comes out of nowhere attacking me he was a weak opponent but a fast one that startled me good.  My stealth is blown again and now I need to keep on the lookout as I travel to the base of the hill, however I had cut to the south too early and now I'm blocked by the last chasm.  I start going back north to look for the opening through to safety.  Only 2 water left!  I'm so close to a water source!  I reach the path around the top of the chasm, but I've come to the conclusion that these chasms are the spawn point of some evil force from hell that climb up to the mortal world.  A ratman spots me and a group of monsters move in on me.  I battle past the fiends and hide in a depression in the ground and crawl, oh god I crawl for my life.  Later in the day I find a brook!  I fill my water skins, back up to 18 water with 79 food.  By the end of the day by following the brook down steam I reach the grassy forest again.  My legs still mangled however.

Day 50 Update

I would also like to note that the mayhem of the mountain ascent and decent has destroyed my clothing, I'm a naked man in armor now.  Damn elves.

AMAZING story. This could be classic, do I smell a story proportionate to Kobolds Quest? Oh it could be the *Cave Oatmeal Biscuits*.
