I have several dwarves jailed with varying levels of dehydration/starvation. I also have a fortress of 200+ people, most (if not all) of which have the Healthcare profession switched on.

In addition, I have three peasants whose ONLY duty is Healthcare, but which just sit in the meeting areas with 'No Job'. One of them has a brown spinal injury (was a soldier; deactivated him ages ago) but the moves around fine. The others are completely uninjured and unoccupied.

do you have dirty water or clean water available?
did you check to make sure it was thirst?
is your cistern frozen over, or very very low?
most importantly, do you have any buckets available?

This has been around for as long as I can remember.

The heart of the problem lies in the fact that injured/imprisoned dwarves only generate two "Feed me!" jobs; one when they become hungry, one when they become starving (and another two jobs when they become thirsty/dehydrated).

So if Moldath the Lunch Warden decides to take a nap halfway to the hungry dwarf, the feeding job is canceled, and another one isn't generated until the inmate begins to starve. And if THAT job gets canceled, have the mason make another coffin.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

You could always surround the chains with a food stockpile.

I have stockpiles by their beds but they aren't filling quickly enough. :(

And yes eerr, all of those conditions are fine, the issue is exactly as Untelligent describes. Which is a shame, because one of those dwarves has a wonderful history but now he's starving in jail and I'd hate for his story to end in such a poor way!
