500 FPS
« on: August 19, 2008, 11:33:11 am »

I was testing a new fortress in 50a; featuring a volcano, chasm, Cave River, and large fortress, and got over 70 fps. I thought this was great, as I just finished playing a 39f succession game at 18fps. To test the difference, I loaded up a new world; a pocket glacial world. I selected a 2x2 site and embarked. I got 100-150 FPS paused, but then when I unpaused I could FEEL the acceleration. I gotta try setting them to speed1 at that rate. Even with closer to 50 dwarves I'm still getting low 300s- high 200s or more.
WOW!

Wouldn't his version be like, version .120+?

But giving PTTG? version .120 or over might make us suspect something MORE than a simple spelling error.

This way, PTTG? can claim it was an accident, while still getting to play his highly advanced version.  Curse him and John Titor both, the scheming bums!

Whatever it is that the great and powerful Toad did to the code for this recent release, even just during the opening animations, I can see a major performance improvement.

Considering I'm running on a dual-core sporting a whopping 755MHz per core, this new version runs amazingly well.

As much as I'm tempted to try the latest version, I've also heard it's got some very irritating redrawing issues.

I'll stick with 39e for now.

Err..  what's your judgment against 39f, though?

I will explain; I like to use the 'new math' form of sequential numbering. I'm sorry if any philistines in the audience became confused, their primitive minds boggling in terror and reacting in the only way they know how. That said, I will not be able to pay to repair or clean your computers. What I can do for you is explain that, though it is certainly beyond your mental facilities to understand the system, I can tell you that 50a in conventional, or "basic" or "stupid" math would be written as '40a'

There wasn't any new feature I found interesting, or any bugfix for a bug that often flew into my face.

It just didn't seem worth it at that point in the game's history to justify re-tweaking all of the init and keybindings to my personal taste all over again.
