Cat-killed vermin swarms leave a single small remains
« on: August 18, 2008, 04:31:07 pm »

Aww, i was expecting more when my cats came across 'many fluffy wamblers'. Like that the swarm would split up and scatter in all directions. But no, the felines slew dozens of vermin in a single swipe of it's claw and hit them so hard that the bodies all got fused together into a single rat-sized mass.

I suppose this counts as a bug in some abstract manner.

I think it's a way Toady handle really small vermins (a swarm of flies), treating them as one entity is easier to handle.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

A long time ago in the dev page Toady mentioned allowing a single fly to be caught from a swarm when catching small animals. So while swarms are treated as single entities, upon death/interacting they try to act as many. This counts as a bug.

"many fluffy wamblers" is itself a bug, since they don't have MICRO.  Does somebody have a "many fluffy wamblers" save or one with non-micro vermin generated that aren't by themselves?

Huh, i thought it was intended. Like that those where just an indication that there were a butt-load of vermin in the immediate vicinity, like it does with fish.

I get them all the time, vanilla DF.

I tried to reproduce it when it was reported in a thread a long time ago, but I've never been able to do it.  All of the wamblers I get in good regions are by themselves.  Is there any further information you can give on this?

I haven't seen the swarm leaving behind a single remains thing, but I could swear I've seen a fluffy wambler swarm once. I think there may have been one in the fort we're using for Evilcheerios Tholfeb succession game. The latest save should be posted up on page 5 of that board IIRC.

Am I the only one who finds the name "Fluffy Wambler" to be insufferably cute?
