I think i speak for everyone when i say

orgional fortress location but with current fortress abilities! that would be awesome and i wouldn't care if there was no levels. you could build a perfect fortress back then, exactly how you wanted it. I'm not saying its not possible now (bloody amazing) but then it was powerful and beautiful! can anyone do this? maybe a side project from toady himself?

I heartily disagree. My best fortress barely lasted a few years, and was a triumph of waterfall engineering, hell unleashing, and general dwarven badassery, none of which would have been possible(or at least not possible to the same extent) in the old 2d version.

There is nothing preventing someone to build on one level. That being said, I still wish there was a possibility to limit z levels.
Example: I want level -2 to 2 and the game would eliminate the rest, giving more speed, and the possibility to embark to a larger area.

Sometimes i would rater play 4 z levels on a full size map then 182 z levels on a 6x6.

Whoa it's my fort from a long time ago. I've seen it quoted twice so far recently. I hate that I lost it with my computer reformat or I would have finished it.

You are frickin awesome analfish. I love that town. :D

Sometimes I miss the old version, usually when I'm stuck making nothing but tin and lead and wishing my map had at least iron and flux. I don't think I'd be able to go back just because pathing and storage were such nightmares in 2d.

Yeah, but it's slow as crap.  You can't set the framerate with regards to 'actual' framerate.
