Caravan Murder
« on: August 17, 2008, 01:29:29 pm »

This isn't really so much a bug as an exploitation, but in my current fortress I built my Trade Depot on a channel-surrounded isthmuth and waited for the elven caravan to roll in.  When they did, I isolated them by turning it into an island.  I assumed they'd go berserk, I'd kill'em and take their stuff, and war would ensue.
When they finally did break down. however, one became depressed while the other went berserk and killed his partner and tow oxen.  At that point an archer brought him down and we went to cliam the spoils on an instigated war.
But the war never came.

Considering other things that have caused disputes between dwarves and elves, like one of their traders getting knocked off a waterfall by an animal, or one dying of old age while visiting, i assume that this deliberate method of murder should be considered reason enough not to trade with the fort agai, if nothing else.  Yet the same group did the same thing to the same group of elves the very next year.
Is it the insanity that makes it okey that they died?  Does that change their nature from being members of a society to being monsters?  If so, that's really cool and kinda sick all at once.  =->
