[39f]PopCap Ignored + Savefile
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:59:46 am »

It's the elusive popcap bug, but this time, someone has provided you with a save file - yay! :P

My hilariously overpopulated sandy fortress just had a whole bunch of immigrants arrive, despite the fact that my population was already at 204, and is capped at 200 in the ini. No purples (Nobles) arrived with this group (eliminating that possibility), and I have not edited the birthrates (eliminating that one too). My game is vanilla apart from the Mayday graphics set, and tameable Unicorns (I have a breeding room chock *full* of them).

Ini settings:

Saved just after the immigrants arrived. Unfortunately I don't have a savefile a reasonably short amount of time before that, so I hope this is okay.

Oh, by the way, that save file also has an area a few tiles southwest of the fort's entrance (F1) where the Murky Pool tiles remained even after I dug away all the walls around the pool. Now whenever it rains, that area generates a shallow pool of water. I'm currently in the process of walling it in to create an artificial pond without needing any pumps or fancy machinery. xD

I am finding the population cap to be working erratically too.  My current fortress population is capped at 160 and has now reached 179.

What appears to be happening with mine is that every time a child grows up and becomes a peasant, an additional "child" slot opens up and sure enough some dwarf has a baby, the total number of dwarves increasing by one each time.

I'm pretty sure the popcap is only supposed to stop immigration once you hit the cap, not children.

Correct, there is a separate child pop-cap.

I have experienced this too, in .40a.

Population at 207, cap at 200, new immigrants arrive boosting population to 216.

I have a save immediately after receiving the message, just as the first immigrant is entering.

The save is over the 20 meg limit, so I can't mail it.  I can put it on DFFD if you (Toady) want it.

I never knew that.

It was too good to pass up.  Felt that the idea was intact with the one line. :)

Save file: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=438

Is that all of the files in the region folder?  I just see the world.sav.

A pre-arrival save would be best for this, though I might be able to figure it out from the post-arrival.

Well now it's my meme. Dwarf 1™, Dwarf 2™ and Dwarf 3™ are MAEEEIN!

Also I plan to make a short weekly comic with them. See what hell you have brought upon this forum?

:/ Sorry, I didn't realise the rest were needed- I was being concious of uploading unecessary clutter.

Erm... this may be awkward. I can provide the whole folder, but it's no longer just after the migrant arrival (this is my active fortress and I've saved several times since then).

Here's the updated archive: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=438

It also still contains the old world.sav (that you've already seen) just in case.

Sorry for the bother. And here I was thinking I was helpful. xD

All the information is correct and there are no more migrants coming.  I guess I'll definitely need a pre-arrival save.

Can't you stuff the old world save file into the new folder? Isn't the world save file the only one that governs fortresses, and the rest, the world? >_> <_<

I have uploaded to DFFD a save that reliably demonstrates this problem.

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=524

POPULATION_CAP at 200, current population 211, and migrants reliably arrive.  While getting the save to the point just before they arrive, I had them arrive roughly 10 times, they never failed to arrive.

Mods in use: modified steel making, made all vermin tamable.  (Included)

Other things: revealed the map with Tweak utility, and use Dwarf Foreman utility to manage work assignments.

Game created and played in .40c.

Okay, I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.
