Building with Bone?
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:11:33 pm »

Ok, so I found this old topic while searching, but it doesn't help a whole lot. Can anyone clarify for me, please?

(To sum up: I want to build walls with bones - apparently bone blocks are the way to go, but how do I get there?)

Last time I played around with the minerals mod, I recall being able to produce bone blocks or something of the sort.  You should take a look at that.

Toady mentioned that he's gonna fix creature and plant reactions soon so it would be easier to wait for that.
For now the game does not recognize the creature/plant by name but by it's order in compiled raws instead.

Here, add this to your reactions
[REACTION:FUSE_BONES]
[NAME:fuse bones]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:2:BONES:NO_SUBTYPE:BONE:NO_MATGLOSS]
[PRODUCT:100:1:STONE:NO_SUBTYPE:STONE:FUSED_BONES]

and add this to your list of minerals
[MATGLOSS_STONE:FUSED_BONES]
[NAME:fused bones][COLOR:0:7:1][TILE:177][SHARP]
[VALUE:3]

This reaction will take two bones and fuse them into one stone named fused bones. This stone functions the same as obsidian, with you being able to make weapons as well as walls from it. If you wish to change the amount of bones needed, just change the number directly to the right of the word REAGENT in the reaction to how many you think should turn into one stone. Also, if you think that it should use fuel, add the [FUEL] tag to the reaction.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Sweet, exactly what I wanted, thanks. :D I'm sure I'll want something more complex down the line, but for now this'll work.

The problem with that is that it takes two STACKS of bones, not two bones.

And that it doesn't work, or at least didn't until this version. It seeks specific bones, not "any" bones - to seek "any" bones, you need to omit the material entirely, just "[REAGENT:1:BONES:NO_SUBTYPE]"

This is an awesome idea! I wantz. Is there a way to make it use just two bones instead of two stacks?

Nope, that's the downfall of stacked items.  Everything bone-related takes one STACK, not one BONE.
Decorations with bone: one stack
Bone crafts: one stack
Bone reactions: one stack

Which is why I use 1 stack of bones for the reaction in the Minerals mod, plus a bit of ashes for realism.
