[39f] Ruler dressed as peasant, except not quite
« on: August 14, 2008, 06:01:10 pm »

Struck adamantium, got said message a couple seasons later, problem is that I also got a Queen (noble) that arrived in the same wave (no other nobles/guards whatsoever) and needs all her Needs filled, is this something that's meant to happen?  :(

Yes.  For the first time in many versions, it is working perfectly.

Coming dressed as a peasant means no entourage.  It doesn't mean they don't want rooms up to their standards.

Well, now she's stricken by melancholy because I couldn't get it all set up quickly enough (since I don't have any other expensive materials besides adamantine), oh well.

Why does the king even decide to dress up as a peasant anyways? I don't get the reasoning behind this.

So he can steal your adamantine. He's greedy like that. :3

Adamantine in a poorly defended fortress is the royal equivalent of an unclaimed sock on a battlefield

Just to show the dwarves, that he is one from them, not some power hungry monster.  ;D

Yeah, just like the rest of them, not getting traumatized by not having a dining room made of pure adamantium and then starving in the Sherrif's office at all.

I think it's supposed to be the ruler sneaks away from the capital to get his hands on the adamantine, but since you are getting him early the fort isn't good enough yet for the other nobles. Since the ruler can't convince the nobles to move out to a stinking hole in the wilderness, he has to sneak away from the capital and come to the fort in secret. I guess the monarchy is always obsessed with the adamantine or something? More than regular dwarves?

I loved that so much I had to quote you. Hope you don't mind. :D

My current king (who came dressed as a peasant) just hangs out in the dining room and makes no demands.  He is listed as "friendly" on the units screen.  He does meet with diplomats.

Does that qualify as a bug?

What you should check is wether or not the "king dressed as peasant" is your actual civ ruler. Since i usualy don't breach the pits untill i have a fort capable of fending the demons off i always have the king already by that time. Afaik the adamantine king is(was) a random upstart imposter, kinda like all those nigerian princes trying to make us rich.

Yeah, it was a queen (wearing only a fox leather shoe, rowr), and she did indeed count as leader of the civilization, even in Legends.

That was fixed a while ago.  But yeah, it was grabbing the first entity in the civ, King or no.
