OOh, trophy trophy trophy -- BLAMMO
« on: August 13, 2008, 02:06:44 pm »

OKay so I like to collect the bones of my memorable enemies slain in battle, so I was burning up this elf bowman that had managed to stab my left eye out and really hoping I would get a skull.

So I dropped his corpse next to a tree and lit it on fire and began my trophy fire dance, walking back and forth while the fire burns, about 2 tiles away from the fire.

Well ... all the sudden, I noticed I was trailing puffs of smoke every time I moved.  By the time my movement queue had run out, my arm was bright red and had lost control of both of my shields, dropping them.  A lot of my body had been completely burned and I was terrified.  Thankfully, the bleeding wore off pretty quick and I was able to fast travel and save him.

I tried to figure out what had happened because at no time had I ever set foot over a tile that was actually on fire ...

Well ... looking through my inventory, I noticed that i had 2 XXTower-Cap BarrelsXX with nothing in them.

I tried to remember what had been in them ... oh yes, Dwarven Rum!

Great, I got too close to the fire and my rum barrels exploded in my backpack and melted my arm damn near off.

Just goes to show you -- you play with fire, you get burned.

I'm pretty sure this won't work.

In my experience, the booze only turns into molten booze, it doesn't actually expand and explode.

In my instance, the item was in my inventory and thus caught my dumb ass on fire, but, I'm pretty sure that will just cause the fire to flare up a bit and then burn the fuel.

The "blammo" in my title was mostly for dramatic effect, though, it seems like that's what should happen.

You collect bones? What good are bones? You cant tell them apart. I collect heads =] they never rot as far as I can tell (unless you dont travel for a long time, but im not even sure if that would do it) and you can always tell who their from. Plus its fun as hell to run around an enemy human town throwing heads of their countrymen at them while cuting their neighbors into peices.

i just like to toss out all but one bone from an enemy, like a dragon or a titan or something magnificent that I've killed.  Also, my adventurer that I've been playing for a few weeks now is a spearman so ... needless to say, I don't get a whole lot of severed heads.

However, occasionally during the cremation process I get the much sought after skull.  My dragon skull is my most prized possession!

Ooh, fellow skull collector! Hail!  :D

I was trying to collect skulls from every single kind of creature one time. For some reason polar bear skulls would never be left behind. Might be due to my method, which is to throw the corpse on a plant next to a pond and sleeping on the other side of the pond (after setting the plant on fire of course). That way the water blacks the fire from reaching you, and if you manage to set yourself on fire retrieving the skull you can just hop in the water.

And boil to death.

Now that only happened once, and that was when i was too far away from the pool to start with.  :P If you jump in right away you're fairly safe.

How does burning a body get you a skull? Also, do you have to carry them all with you or can you store items somewhere and not have them disappear?

Well, have you ever burned the body of any thing in real life? I havn't but I would assume that it burns up all the meat and leaves the more hard non flamible parts. Bones.

That makes sense, what about storing your loot somewhere?

Well...Thats the problem..You could store it all in a back pack and drop the back pack, but the back pack will get moved around. There are a few theorys like these things only move around on z-levels their in, so people build underground rooms and put the loot there, no idea if it works or not.

I too used to collect skulls, developing the burning corpse method, and burning trees is also helpful for killing particularly dangerous zombie creatures...
anyways, what i have done (while collecting WAY to many bolts by killing every human i found) is to go to a specific town, find a building, and put everything in there. Nobody will touch it, and ou can just leave it in a friendly cite as far as i know...
I guess i haven't tested this out lately...
