After reading some of the squad names my guys had, i wanted to hear some more. Here's some of the titles my squads have been given

The Fenced Hardiness
The Stakes of Exiting
The Ponderous Picks (very profane)
The Books of Clenching
The Disemboweled Craft
The Blockaded Disembowelment
The Rainy Page-Razor
The Helmed Stokers
The Towns of Murder(Awesome!)
The Fenced Breaches (WTF)

I Love the random names, what cool ones have you found.

I always am on the look out for cool squad names.

"The Barricaded Nuts" was to be my interior defense squad, working from behind fortifications firing onto the incoming invaders in my "Goblin invitation zone".

"The Icy Bolts" was the squad name assigned to a marksdwarf hunter who emmigrated to my fort. Suffice to say, he quickly became the leader of a marksdwarf squad... which was summarily wiped out in a later siege.

Sigh.

I tend to make my own names for the squads I like.

Of course, being the horrible person I am, it's occasionally something like "The Sweltering Balls"

"The Rough Balls", lead by a soap maker and his trusty band of fish cleaners, dyers and milkers. They suffered a 90% mortality rate in their first bout of action.

You can pick which person leads them, is what I think is meant, and different leaders will give the squad different names.

In the latest something aweful succesion game, they have a champion with a title "The Dark Destroyer"

A squad housing some of my top-notch wrestler/armor-user/axemen is called "The Armored Controls" and another squad of wrestlers in training are "The Merchants of Armor". One of my crowssbow squads fancies themselves as "The Influences of Work" (of the bad sort I suppose) and another is "The Considerate Spears" - squad leader was originally a hunter, and didn't notice the squad name until later. I might've switched her to a spear instead had I noticed that soon enough.

You can pick which person leads them, is what I think is meant, and different leaders will give the squad different names.

But there are certain things in a dwarfs traits that might affect how they lead so i then to choose dwarfs with positive (mostly) traits.

My current militia is "the Sweltering Swords", which sounds somewhat Lawrence of Arabia to me.  Its leader is a gung-ho woodcutter who loves dismembering kobold thieves.  Sadly, my fort occupies a cold region and has not made a singe sword, so the title can be considered pretentious.

My favourite name thus far is "the Lanterns of Justice."  That is just so awesome.  It sounds like an amateur superhero quartet.  Besides, my embark group calls itself 'the Oaken Lanterns' so it fits my fortress theme.

I've got a squad of 4 wrestlers called "The Bearded Spears". Guess who's becoming spear dwarves

Female captain, her squad is the dignified dikes.  Of course her squad is conscripted of nothing but females!

In the history of the region my current fortress is in the was an Elf/Human battle called "The battle of fighting". The historians weren't very creative at the time.
