lol, looks like toady did it for me. Boy do i feel like an idiot. Okay with that solved. you can build whatever you want in your year. I'm sure people will go with it.

I'm not really sure about the mountain.
For flux and iron don't worry, i've found a good chunk of iron, and chalk is our primary buiding material and covers 3 of the 4 z levels i'm building on. I'll be posting my story update soon.

The way this game will work will be simple. Your goal is to survive 1 year, Spring - Spring, and if you can't do that, give an epic description of the final days of our society. After the year, you will hand it off to the next person in the list(will be constantly updated at the beginning of the thread. Probably the easiest, most impersonal way to do it, is to upload it a site such as Megaupload , then just make a post to the download link. We'll see how far we can make these little dwarves go without them being crushed under the bodies of all the goblins the've killed.

I suggest you use DFFD to upload your files to. There are no annoying adds and its totally free as long as you are uploading DF associated things.

sounds good. Any site will work but i hate adds so i'm going to to go with the one he said

Now i'd like to make a suggesstion that just makes sense to me. If you build any levers or pressure plates, please for the love of god put a specific not that says what they do. It would suck if the game ended because some didn't realize you could flood the base by pulling the levers in the wrong order. It's hard enough for me to remember what my own levers do.

Awwww. But unknown levers are a huge source of fun!

Ok, to upload your save. You just take the folder named region 2 (it's my second world) out of your data\save file, and put it in a zip file. Then you just need to upload it to the site, which can be done once you have an account, then you just hit the upload link on the home page, and it will let you upload it, once your done you just have to give us the link, or at least tell us which section you put it in.

For images you actually need to upload them to photobucket or imageshack before you can post them, and then it actually gives you the bit of code you need to use right on the page.

And even though not knowing what a lever can do is fun, it's only for the people that didn't get trampled by a horde of released unicorn when they pulled it.

Anyway, working on my first, and very long story post.

Well if theres no trees then there must be lava, second the first init file needs to get passed on with the game file to make sure everything progresses as it should. Joseph Miles I'll pass my version of dwarf fort with the save file to you that way you get the most recent version.

Tholfeb "Deeparrows"

The seven of us were going into the area i'd come to know as Deeparrows practically empty handed. We had a little bit of food and drink left after the journey, our dogs had fared the journey well at the start, which is good as i like to have something reliable on watch, and we had enough supplies to get a base started. The area surrounding us seems quite serene at first sight. Hopefully we can live here without much trouble. The native wildlife is a little sparse, but i have to keep a close eye on my men. The rivers are teeming with pikes, sturgeons, and worst of all by far carp.My men laugh at me but they've never seen what the little bastards can do to a dwarf.

In any case, they're should be enough supplies here once we strike far enough into the earth to hit some solid building materials.I've had two of my hardiest dwarfs take up the task of tearing into the mountain, but i've made sure that they leave room for expansion later.

Early into our journey a few strange things have happened. A few unicorn have wandered into the area, I never even knew the beasts existed in real life, but hopefully they will leave well enough alone. Along with that, some chunks of, what we can guess, a sea lamprey have washed up on shore. Were not exactly sure how he died, but my men are a little more weary of the water now.

Knowing our supplies of booze wouldn’t hold out long, I quickly began work on a still, I used to make bootleg beer all the time, and am currently working in the still between farming. My fellow dwarves have given me the title of “brewmaster”, and it’s actually catching on. I managed to get enough beds for our people, and a farm is coming along nicely.

It’s Autumn now, the first few seasons brought along no new immigrants, which is alright with me, This winter will be hard as it is. A few groups interesting events occurred lately. We had our first traders come, and they provided a variety of uncooked foods for us. Along with them, however, came not only kobold thieves who were quickly dispatched, but a large group of Rhesus macaque. It’s was amazing watching my dwaves and war dogs quickly corner one, and tear it to pieces. After a few hours we had killed most of them. I plan to make a butcher shop, i hope my fellow Farmer isn't squemish around dead Rhesus macaque.

Still no migrants have arrived. This proves troublesome, as I have been looking for some people to start up my smelter. Luckily I have found some lignite and I’m producing some coke to have a good amount of fuel. Hopefully I can get a couple steel weapons and a lot of iron armor on our soliders soon. Winters coming soon, i'll have to keep a close eye on my booze supplies if the river freezes over.

Ok seems like a good start, you might want to try photobucket because those pics are really low quality and small and theres no option to enlarge them with what your using. Is there any accual way of telling the day in the game?

edit: also are we gonna have economy, and if we are zero rent?

It’s winter now, nothing has frozen over, which is a problem, looks like the carp will be a problem for years to come. A recent attempt to construct a well has gone nowhere, as the water pressure could have flooded our base, we will have to explore some new ways of making getting fresh water if we need it. In an attempt to gether a few more valuables I have had the miners dig out some exploritory shafts. All in all Winter has been fairly booring. I’ve had the men produce a few things for the defence of the fortress, including a couple of swords.  I’m only waiting for a new group of migrants to energize the base.

Spring  has come, and I’ve decided to step down in order to perfect my beer making. May the rest of our days be as quite as these.

((and here's how our fortress stands after year 1))

((This has the farm, and the entrance, i'm still trying to leave plenty of room for expansion of the front entrances defence))

((Here's the main floor))

((Here's the start of additional workshops and bedrooms, i've yet to designate the bedrooms, I got this buidling plan from here and of course your free to tear it apart))

((last but not least, here you go away Spring, year 2 ))

((PS: exported images work so much better))
